For the convent, all I could suggest is googling for convents in the right area. Ethel doesn't remember anything about it?


There's no death for a Wilfred Minty in the GRO index except the son born 1913.

This is the closest I see for Sarah:

If Sarah had cohabited with someone else after the split, her death might be recorded under that surname.

Could I also ask:-
1. If anyone has any info about what happened to the parents after they split up.:-
Wilfred and Sarah A.(dob 1887) Minty(neeAmos) - married 1913. They must have split between 1926(last child Ethel Rose was born) and 1932(when boys were sent to Australia.
2. How would I go about finding out which convent Ethel Rose was sent to about the same time?

Ernest George Minty died in 1983, 27 years ago. So you would be able to obtain a copy of that form, which should show the name of the person who arranged the funeral at least, I would think.

Him too in fact Tony -- I'd stuck his passenger record from FMP in under John's on p.1:

I wonder whether he'd been placed in a children's facility in Durham maybe and didn't know his history.

So if you can find any more for him that would be good too!


I do suggest that Jane just contact those 9 Minty-s in the white pages in Western Australia. Some of them have got to be related. I'll send her the listings.

Just to add....In your post heading you mention a Ernest G.( George? ) MINTY. as being a sibling of John Alfred MINTY.

Also from Western Australia a possible link, although birth place was Durham England?...but shows father as Ernest.

As John Alfred MINTY was a police Constable ( shown on Electorol Rolls )...there "may" be further references to him at Western Australia Police Archives, and may be worth contacting.

Cant see a death in Western Australia, but they are only searchable up to certain years on-line

The RYERSON index ( Contempory Death Notices ) in Newspapers....show a John Alfred or Alfred John MINTY funeral notice in Courier Mail (Brisbane) Queensland in 2010.

MINTY Alfred John ....Funeral notice.... 22JUL2010... Death age 86 .... late of Manly, Courier Mail (Brisbane) 26JUL2010 .....which according to his age 86 in 2010 gives a birth c.1923-4 ( give or take )
This may or may not be him, but would be worth further investigation.

update:

The MINTY death in 2010 dosent appear to be your John Alfed MINTY....but is Alfred John MINTY

I've PMed Jane info on Wilfred's children and grandchildren, and directions for contacting Tracey to ask for an ER lookup for one sure bet on the current electoral roll.

Ernest and John both travelled to Western Australia, but I'm not familiar with child migrants to Australia so I don't know whether they would have stayed there.
