Find Ancestors

I am trying to find any connection to Ethel Rose Minty, born to Wilfred and Sarah Ann Minty (nee Amos) in 1926. Sh had brothers, Wifred T - 1913, Ernest G - 1920, John A - 1923 and a sister, Katie A - 1917.They were all born in Faversham, Kent area but the family was split up when the parents seperated. Ethel Rose was brought up by nuns in a convent and has had no contact with her family since the split when she was very young. Please can anyone help?

I don't see a marriage for John, or for Katie. I also don't see deaths for those names.

I wonder whether, since they were young, they were adopted?

That looks very much like it could be your John. I don't see anyone who could be Katie. (I also checked Home Children records at the government of Canada site.)

And it looks like Ernest followed him:

This is what happened to many orphaned (or even just poor) children at the time.


If you use the Edit link in your first post, you can change the title to add "and Australia".

If you retype it so it is not all capitals, it will all fit on the line and won't be so loud. ;)

That way, our Australian members (I'm in Canada) will be sure to notice it and will do some searching for you in Australian records.

I've PMed Jane info on Wilfred's children and grandchildren, and directions for contacting Tracey to ask for an ER lookup for one sure bet on the current electoral roll.

Ernest and John both travelled to Western Australia, but I'm not familiar with child migrants to Australia so I don't know whether they would have stayed there.

and there are 9 Minty listings in Western Australia who could be their children or grandchildren. You could always try sending letters to those people, if no one here is able to find more info about Ernest and John after they arrived in Australia -- but probably someone will. ;)

One thing -- would you use the edit link in your post up above to remove the name and location I had sent you privately? I sent it that way because he's a living person and we shouldn't be discussing him by name or disclosing information about him on the internet without his knowledge.

Tell ya what, Tracey's around at the moment and I'll ask her to do the lookup and send you the info. The message might come from someone with a strange name, but don't worry if so, she's amusing herself trying on new names. ;)

By the way, all of us "working" here are really just other members of the site. We spend time here helping out with other members' hunts for ancestors and family when we should be doing one kind of work or another instead!

Cant see a death in Western Australia, but they are only searchable up to certain years on-line

The RYERSON index ( Contempory Death Notices ) in Newspapers....show a John Alfred or Alfred John MINTY funeral notice in Courier Mail (Brisbane) Queensland in 2010.

MINTY Alfred John ....Funeral notice.... 22JUL2010... Death age 86 .... late of Manly, Courier Mail (Brisbane) 26JUL2010 .....which according to his age 86 in 2010 gives a birth c.1923-4 ( give or take )
This may or may not be him, but would be worth further investigation.

update:

The MINTY death in 2010 dosent appear to be your John Alfed MINTY....but is Alfred John MINTY

As John Alfred MINTY was listed as living in Leederville around the 1954 Electorol roll,which is a suburb out of Perth Western Australia...a search of the KARRAKATTA Cemetery shows:

Ernest George Minty died in 1983, 27 years ago. So you would be able to obtain a copy of that form, which should show the name of the person who arranged the funeral at least, I would think.
