Anne Report 27 Aug 2010 21:45

Hi Janey its anne again I went to the cematory today and found all the drivers which you mentiond. I went to the office about the grave of James Wilkinson Driver who died in 1852 but he said it would be in the parish church at keighley. I have tried to find the death of James Driver born Sept 1831 he died in 1883 in Diamond hill sandhurst victoria australia. I wondered if he went there for the gold rush I have looked in all the deaths abroad but have hit a brick wall. I wondered if you could help me once more thanks. Anne p.s. It was written on the grave stone.

You want an Aussie for that job. Canucks are no good. ;) Actually, I'm good at NSW records, but the others I kind of haven't figured out. You do have to look in local death registers, not English "deaths abroad", and in Australia they're held by state (as in Canada by province), not nationally.

I recommend this -- and this is a good time because the Aussies will be waking up now.

Start a new thread -- yes, that's me saying start a new thread.

Call it

James Driver died 1883 Victoria Australia

Putting Australia in the subject line means they'll be sure to see it.

Give the info you have about him -- specifically, copy the baptism info:

JAMES DRIVER - parents James (Wilkinson) Driver and Jane
Christening: 06 NOV 1831 Keighley, Yorkshire, England

*And* -- *Give the link to this thread* -- copy and paste this in your new post:

That way if they need anything from here they can find it, and they won't go digging for things you already have.

I think that's the best way to tackle James, since he does hive off from the family when he goes to Australia.

The Aussies may be able to find a marriage, children, etc.

https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=getHistIdxSearchCriteria

Searching just for the name James Driver:

"You may view 22 matching records as 2 separate pages.
Each result page not previously viewed in this session will cost $ 0.99 to view."

It's cheap, but I ain't paying. ;)

I don't get any results when using James or Wilkinson or Jane for a parent's name, but they may not have been stated in records.

Using the date range 1882-1884, there are two results. One result for 1883 specifically.

There are 4 marriages, but I don't know when.

What I'd do, if I were you, is just get the 2 pages of search results for all James Driver entries in the records, for a total of $2 AUS (about 1 pound, I think), and see what you get.

You give credit card details when you click Continue from a search, set a limit, and then just pay as you go.

Now, the Aussies might still be able to find you more, like electoral roll info, so you might still try asking.

>>>> Actually -- just edit your first post in this thread.

Make the subject line what I said in the post above.

At the very beginning of your first post, just say "please see page 2 re Australia".

Then it's all here together.
