:)))

Several of our friends have moved to sending ecards!

and I do have a subscription to Jacquie Lawson ......... I get more than my money's worth from them.

But we do also do a letter that goes into most cards, giving an update on our lives and happenings, keeping it as funny and interesting as we can. No "we have achieved this that or t'other this year" boastings!!

That's really how we keep in touch with friends from long ago.

Funny you should say about enclosing a letter Sylvs as I do exactly the same and started on this year's today! Like you, I keep it simple and funny with things which have usually gone wrong rather than a showing off type of message. I've had replies from frineds who look forward to it and say it 'makes' their Christmas!! Trouble is, it can be hard work trying to be humourous.

Frineds???

Cyn

we've also had friends saying how much they look forward to our letter each year! Which is very gratifying.

OH did the draft letter last week, transferred it to my computer, and I worked on it mid-week, found 3 photos to add, and have worked out spacings etc.

Now I have to print off a practice one .................. and then we'll get to work

We have it down to a fine art now.

OH checks over the address list and prints off the address labels. I print off the letters, OH adds Dear so-and-so, maybe a little personal remark at the end, and signs. Then he writes the card, puts the two together into the envelope, and sticks the label on.

I fit in where and when I can ............. my printer needs an eye keeping on it when printing off as it has conniptions sometimes!

As an example, last week we wanted to print off something to do with the kitchen. I asked OH to watch the printer, make sure the paper was in correctly, that it was feeding correctly, etc to save me jumping up and down.

We tried FIVE times and it never got it right once!

I did it .............. bingo! Printed correctly first time!

it does like the paper to go in just so!!

I think it will have to be a Jacquie Lawrence if I send her a card

or I'll throw it off the train with the cedar plank as we pass by where she lives!

Those Christmas letters ... I've only ever received a couple, an old friend of mine I used to stay with in Havana is in Vancouver now and sends them. Boasting or bemoaning, nobody ever seems to aim to entertain.

I read one from an old beau of mine once at the house of the mutual friends we'd met through. Brag, brag, brag. Yeesh. The card was a family photo one. My consolation (if I needed one, for him marrying somebody else, since I didn't want to marry him anyhow) was that the kids they were bragging about were the ugliest kids you'd ever seen in your life! ;)

I have always wanted to send one full of things like the cats died, the car broke down, No.1 nearly died, I broke three teeth, the roof leaks ...

I remember one letter we sent out many years ago .... wording is not exact, but it went something like:-

We had a lovely holiday, driving down through Idaho to Utah, up to North Dakota and back into Canada. Sylvia as usual managed to find some good roads, her usual "Sylvia roads". One was down to a spectacular section of the Snake River in Idaho. The road was completely blocked when we got to the top, but the bulldozer driver cleared the way for us, and it was pretty hair raising down the hairpin bends. But there was a VW Beetle down at the river side, and a truck pulling a trailer. It was easier going back up the hill.
