I avoid that type of clip and check if someone sends a link I am not expecting. When you click like there is a hidden button underneath that activates the virus.

I have only once clicked on a dodgy email and that actually was worded in such a way it seemed innocent. It was from a fellow researcher and said something like I have found something interesting.
Seemed like a research breakthrough.

I saw the warning too late.

My daughter was on line and spotted the messages starting to appear. so was able to deal with it straight away.

Morning all.

I am not scaremongering but as I know a lot of you are also Facebook users I felt it responsible to alert you.

During the week my son's computer was infiltrated by a computer virus which he thinks was most probably picked up when he innocently clicked on a link. What happened next was that a pop-up appeared on his screen effectively blocking his computer and demanding that he send £100 via UKash in order to "Release" his computer. He rebooted his computer but found that the pop-up immediately reappeared thus still preventing him from using his computer. We realised that as the pop-up had reappeared on start up then the virus was located in his computers MSConfig file. Armed with that knowledge and after starting in "Safe mode" the virus was easily located, prevented from activating and subsequently removed.

Since then I have discovered via Google, that the virus is thought to be spread most commonly through sites such as Facebook and Youtube, often by emails purporting to come from members. Cyber crime is most definitely on the increase and the methods used to infiltrate peoples computers are becoming more sophisticated and potentially more damaging. The article below contains some good advice on current cyber crime methods and how to avoid becoming a victim of them.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/moslive/article-2260221/Cyber-crime-Your-currently-targeted-criminal-gangs-looking-steal-money.html

Stay safe.

P.S. UKash is a legitimate money transfer site where users transfer cash to it and in return receive a 19 digit code which they in turn give to the person who they wish to receive the cash. The recipient then inputs the code and the money is then credited to them. The downside is that the recipient remains anonymous which of course is perfect for fraudsters.
