Alfred Charles Fletcher, according to the birth cert of son Alfred James in 1928, was a Private - Bandsman, 2nd Batt(allion), Loyal Regiment, otherwise known as the Lancashire Lads.

Loo, I am a bit of self-professed expert at reading unreadable writing. Won't bore you with why. Will pm you, and ask you to send me the cert to look at for grandad's occupation.

Alfred James Fletcher b1928 is my grandfather (Mums dad) on his birth cert it says

and the above for the occupation! It also says Alfred Fletcher (No middle name/initial) on my Grandfathers Marriage Cert

Sorry Loo, but I didn't read the other thread, so perhaps I am a bit in the dark.

Can you just confirm that you know that Alfred James is your grandfather, via either your father's marriage cert or his birth cert. And if via your father's birth cert, that his mother is Lily Violet Warr.

That then ties up nicely with the marriage:

Spouse from Find My Past is Alfred. No middle name. But coupled with a Ware not a Warr. I see your point now, Loo. I need to work through it myself.

EDIT, should GRO be notified of this? How do we do it? It isn't just an Ancestry or similar error, it's wrong on the GRO.

The sibling names I got this evening from my Grandfather, so they would have been his Aunts and Uncle (Fletcher side dads brothers and sisters)

I can't find a suitable birth for June Fletcher, and as already said, the only birth to a Charles L is with mmn Fletcher, which implies a different family. So where have you got these sibling's names from please?

I assume you have your parents' marriage certificate showing your grandfather as Alfred James Fletcher. If so, does it state his father as Afred Charles Fletcher, and does it give an occupation for his father?

Perhaps you have your father's birth certificate showing his father as Alfred James Fletcher - yes?

I just don't want us to go down the wrong path.

'Doll' is more likely to have been Doris

I think its the London area, my mum thinks my grandads dad died in 1961 ish so give or take a year, and he was approaching retirement so he was aged about 63-70 area when he passed, Lilly Fletcher (Nee Warr) died before Alfred did.
