I would presume this is Magdalene's death |

That would make sense as that would make him Mary's older brother |

I must be getting old - I couldn't see this marriage at all a few minutes ago!!! |

Without a birthplace for Joseph it is difficult to tell but there is this possible birth in Mucklestone with father William |

That's ok, thanks for looking; it seems as though John and Mary aren't relations although it does seem an odd coincidence |

Sorry the children seem to have dispersed by 1851, presumably why John was living away from his family |

The christening of Joseph may just not be on the IGI. I couldn't see Joseph and family post 1841 to see where he was born, but will relook |

Perhaps it is just a concidence then that John Martin is born in Maer like Mary and they're no relation at all, although that does seem odd. |

The IGI gives these possible siblings for Mary, but no Joseph |

I was wondering if William and James Jervis were brothers so thanks for that. |

Mary Jervis nee Martin would have been around 29 in 1841 so Joseph could be her older brother, which would make John her nephew and would explain why John is living with Mary in the 1851 census and is apprenticed to her husband. I will look into this possibility, see if I can't find a baptism for a Jpseph Martin with parents William Martin and Elizabeth. Thanks for all the help so far. |

James lists his birth as Mucklestone in the census. The IGI gives this children as possible siblings with parents James and Ellen Jervis so it looks like the William Jerivs you found in 1861 was James's brother |

I've just checked the census again and it does look more like Martin than Jervis so thanks for that. At least I have Mary's parents now. |

The 1851 census lists William Martin as born in Sheepy Leics so I wonder if this could be him on the IGI |

The record of the marriage on the IGI does not list parents names but it is possible that they could be on the original parish record |
