Find Ancestors

I have been tryying to find my Greataunt and Uncle
Sarah Lewis Nee Bennett born abt 1868
Peter Lewis born abt 1867 both boen in Oldbury.
They married in 1887 in Oldbury.

I can`t find them on any Census,i know of one child they had
Peter Lewis born 1891 in Oldbury,but he is on the 1901
Census in Oldbury with his Grandmother Emma and Uncle
George born abt 1884.
So i don`t know what happened Sarah and Peter,if someone can
check for me,i would be very grateful.

Hello Ozi,
Thankyou very much for finding peter Lewis,i wonder where the
Rogers came from.
Peters mom Emma is there as well it must be her name they are using.
So Sarah Ann age 5 died and Father Peter died in 1894.
Have to try and find out who Sarah the mother married.

The "Rogers" name on that census is an error on the actual census image, by the census taker

Ozi did tell you that in her first posting "Rogers is incorrect ditto marks from the previous household"


It is obvious that the Lewis's live in a separate household although in the same building (think flats).


Thus ... forget all about the naem Rogers as applied in that census record.

The correct names are:-

Peter Lewis 22 - Boatman; Cinderford, Gloucester
Sarah Lewis 21 - Wolverhampton, Stafford
Sarah A Lewis 2
Peter Lewis 2/12

There's that 6 year gap between the two children Ellen and Joseph

NO Mary Brayne born in Oldbury in 1891 to 1894


BUT there is a Mary Lewis born June 1892 and birth registered W Bromwich, the registration centre for Oldbury

I cannot find a Joseph Brayne marriage


I cannot find a Joseph Brayne on the 1891 Census to see if he was married to someone else.


I can find birth registrations for the children


Joseph Brayne b. ca 1900 served in WW1, and I found some of his papers ....... Next of Kin, Joseph Brayne, no name of mother





I think if you want to know more Carol, you are going to have to make a decision


a) to send for that Sarah Lewis marriage certificate,

and/or

b) send for the birth certificate of one or more of the Brayne children born 1899 or later


I strongly suspect that this is Sarah Lewis, and that Mary Brayne is actually Lewis and is the child of Sarah and Peter

....................... but I have no "feeling" as to the mother of Ellen. I do wonder whether she was the child of a first "wife" of Joseph.

Joseph and sarah were married for 19 years
had 14 children 8 still alive.
it says Sarah was born in 1868 in langley,Worcestershire
I don`t know where that is,i will look it up

but I cannot find a marriage for a Joseph Brayne ... I did also try Bra?n? where ? is a wild card for one missing letter


The closest we come is that Sarah Lewis marriage in 1894.
