The person who registered the death was the registrar which I thought was strange. I must try to find this laundry in the London Road it might be interesting to see who was working there like you said.

This sounds worth pursuing Janet.
Just wondering who registered the death?
I am wondering however who else was working at that laundry!

I have just received the death certificate for Wyen Kim, he died in a Chinese laundry and it said he was the proprietor, the laundry was in London road just two streets away from from Windsor Road which is were he was supposed to be living but it didn,t give his home address on the death certificate so it may not be him, but after showing Anthony the certificate Wyen Kim had two very serious problems with his heart and his prostrate I cant remember what they called it because I haven,t got the cert with me, but Anthony has got exactly the same two problems it may be a coincidence. My next step will be to write to the Register office like Rutland Belle said and also phone the bereavement service in Cardiff like Paul said. I can,t thank you all enough for your help. Janet

If I were you I would write a very polite letter to the registrar for Neath and Port Talbot area:

The Register Office, 119 London Road, Neath, SA11 1HL.
Tel: 01639 760021.

Tell them the details of what you are looking for and why, enclose a sae/or e-mail address or phone them.
I did this for a record in Merioneth as there were 2 to choose from. They e-mailed me back to say that neither matched my criteria so saving the cost of 2 certificates.

I have always found staff in these offices to be very helpful concerning family history.

Good luck

Just a thought, well a very UNeducated guess, but did not Cardiff have ships and boats coming into it years ago. Perhaps this gentleman was part of this community, and as a community they had their own corner in a cemetary in Cardiff. There must have been more than one Chinese gentleman die. And, also perhaps, Neath was where is lady partner lived, and he did also when he was not on a boat.
Just a curious thought on my behalf, as I find this post interesting.

The death certificate should show his address at the time of his death. I know they don't always show this, but most seem to.

Looks like I was right to fancy that one! Problem is there might be no way of deciding if he is your grandfather even if you get the death cert.

Was Anthony baptised?
If so, I wonder if his father is named in the register.?

Do you know the father's occupation?... Still wondering why they took him to be buried in Cardiff, after a death in Neath?

i wonder if you can trace him through the electoral rolls for that time as you know the address you could try the local records Office for Neath . If you arent in the area then they may well have a website or a contact tel nos if you google for it

If you're absolutely sure he was buried in Cardiff you may well have to visit any cemetaries and ask to look at their records for 1931. You would have to trawl through the books until you found someone who died at the address you have.

Janet Report 20 May 2010 15:07

So he has his birth cert? Just checking because it would be nice to exclude any mention of a father.

There's quite a distance between Neath and Cardiff, I wonder why he was buried in a Cardiff cemetery.- Perhaps there is a special area for burial of Chinese people?..
Maybe Cardiff burials are listed on computer and Cemetery department could check for a likely name. I would think that place of death would be recorded in their records.
Maybe the Neath office would be able to search on the address for added information.

Actually, I quite fancy the Kim Wyen one. How sure are you of his age? If your father was only 3 when he died maybe he is mistaken.
Can't find any other reference to this person, though could be female of course!
