Brenda, there is nothing wrong with George's age being of 30 on the 1841 census. Ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 years, so he could have been anything from 30 to nearly 35 (as was Jane).

Not that it helps us find George's death, but how do you know Richard is not George's son (but little George is, presumably it says so on his death cert)?

Thanks Ginny, I have looked at Christine's tree, it is not the right year for his death although everyone seems to have that year. There are only 2 deaths reg. 1849 Bristol and having bought both certs. have confirmed this. Regards Brenda

As far as I know he didn't have a middle name unfortunately, John b1828. Emma b1833, Maria b1835, Sarah 1838, Mary Ann b1840, Elizabeth 1843, Richard 1847 not Georges son, and George B&D 1849. (son)?

Hi Patricia, yes 1841C residing Fishponds Bristol. Jane 30yrs, George 30yrs obviously wrong age, Labourer, John Son 13yrs, Emma 8yrs, Maria 6yrs, Sarah 3yrs.

1851C Jane head of household, not stated as widow, so he could have been elsewhere, although I have not been able to track him down. Jane is now a seamstress and 44yrs. Maria 16yrs Cotton weaver, Sarah 14yrs General Servant, Mary Ann 12yrs a needlewoman, Elizabeth 8yrs and Richard 4yrs. The family are now living on Barton Hill Bristol.

This is not helping Brenda, but, in explanation, I had found a Jane that looked right in later censuses, but as I found her married in 1851 I had discounted her.
However, as it is the right Jane, still married in 1851, my surprise was at all those people on ancestry who claim George died in 1849, who cannot have looked at the census.
I agree that people do not tell the truth on censuses, but unless definite evidence for lies one has to trust in someone.
I never believe anything on anyone's tree in ancestry.
I know you look at the images.
They do not.

Michael, I think Brenda seems well aware of the need to do her own research, which is why she isn't relying on other trees which have him dying in 1849 (and it seems has spent money in disproving that) - and so has come on here for some assistance.

I'm not sure why Patricia has discounted "those census entries..that helpers (i.e. me) had found" - my offerings seem perfectly reasonable, George is 30 in 1841 (which could mean 31, 32, 33 or 34) and once I had discovered (and stated on here) that Jane is not a widow in 1851 (but is in 1861 - so she says) I looked for a death between 1851 and 1861 - and found one. Sadly in 1855 ages on death were not recorded, so he too could be the wrong person, and the one I found in 1866 (perfect age, born 1808) might be him.

I am sure Patricia wasn't including me amongst people who don't read census returns.

But I am not daft enough to imagine the truth was always told.

And, had you (helpers) not thought that the census info may not be 'correct'

That's why it's always wise to do, or check the research yourself.

I had discounted those census entries that you (helpers) had found precisely because Jane is not a widow in 1851. Do all those people claiming he died in 1849 not actually read the censuses, or - I cannot think of an or.

This one looks a possible.
