I am trying to trace members of the Tipping family from Preston Lancashire. As we go back to the early 1800s they were living in Alston or Grimsargh, Preston. Any information on the Tippings would be welcomed. Thanks.

There are quite a few Tippings in Preston. What sort of information are you after? Have you found all you want to know from the censuses?
Thanks

Hi i know for definate that Thomas Tipping and Susannah Tipping nee Nelson were my gt gt grandparents. I was given information about Richard Tipping and Jane Stringfellow so i need to proove that this is correct. Ive found their marriage details but before i spend any more money on certificates ( as the ammount adds up) i am trying to contact people who might have information. I have Tippings back to 1775 but i want proof as they may not be the right Tippings. Ive been assured that they are but, i need to find the info myself.
I have a tree on this site, if you would like to view it please let me know. Also if you have any information on Tippings i would be interested to hear from you again.
I
Thanks Karen

Karen I have added some info on your other thread. It's really much easier if you keep the information altogether. I'll copy and paste what I found onto here and let any other helpers know by posting 'duplicate thread' on the other. Cx.

I have the marriage certificate for Susannah and Thomas and it does confirm Richard Tipping as Father and William Nelson as Susannahs father.

TIPPING Richard STRINGFELLOW Jane Preston Register Office or Registrar Attended Preston

so as the marriage rec says father Richard it looks like the Jane Stringfellow marriage is the right one

if you have not used these sites they can often save having to send for a certificate as they are (apart from a few transcription errors) the true parish records. These for marriages give all the details you would find on a certificate.
Unfortunately the Richard & Jane marraige is not on lan-opc as it was either register office or non-Cof E and most of the churches transcribed are Cof E.

Thankyou all for the help, that would have taken me ages to suss out as there are 2 Richard Tippings born in the same year and town aswell as a good few thomas'. Thanks again. Would anyone know where i would look for information from 1775 as i have Jacob or Jacobi with his wife, where would i look for info prior to this date. Also there is a Tippings farm in Alston nr Preston which is near Dam House where the Tippings lived. How would i find out if this farm has anything to do with my ancestors? I have too many questions and not enough knowledge, but, im learning!
Thanks again.

Hi Karen. Have you used the IGI? If not, you will find it at familysearch.org
It is free to search and relatively easy to use - practice helps! Have a go and see what you think.

If you find a relative there, just see if it says it is a 'submitted' or 'extracted' record. Extracted records are much more reliable because they have been taken from parish records whereas submitted ones have been sent in by other people and you just never can be sure if they have got their info right.

I'll have a quick look for Jacob now but then must disappear for a while with jobs to do. Have a go. Back later. Cx.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 14 Apr 2010 12:14

Can't immediately see a Jacob from Preston but there is one from Gloucestershire about that time.

Can you let us know where you got/get your info from - it may save us time looking things up. Any info helps. Cx.

lancashireAnn Report 14 Apr 2010 13:11

what year are you looking for 'Jacobi' in please. Who was his wife?

If you are going of an early record it was possibly written in Latin. In which case Jacobi = James.

Karen

Karen Report 15 Apr 2010 15:09

Hi I have had jacobi and his wife i think called Mary. ill have to check up on my sheets to see when and where i found this out.

I didnt realise that there was 2 pages to my threads now so i apologise. I did say i was thick! Im going out now so ill check later when i get back.

Thanks.
