Have you searched trees on here? have you tried the Archives centre nearest to where they lived? Parish records may well be online on thier website, this will enable you to check for a marriage and christening. The christening will show the childs parents , dads occupation and abode.good luck |

Did John and Jane marry in 1860? If so, you should be able to find their marriage on Scotlandspeople site. It is a pay to view site but you can view, print and download images of original birth, marriage and death entries (or parish records from before 1855). |

If that is the correct John, this could be the Margaret McDonald connect. |

John (b. 1861)'s birth entry on Scotlandspeople will give you the date and place of his parents marriage. That marriage certificate should then confirm the names of his grandparents. |

Statutory registration didn't begin until 1855 in Scotland. Even if you can't find a marriage on Scotlandspeople it may be that they married in a different church . The OPRs are mostly church of Scotland records. Is it the marriage for Angus and his wife that you can't find please? Just out of interest was Margaret named as Angus's wife on John's marriage certificate please? Was John's mother still alive when he married? If so have you searched for her death certificate in the hope of getting her parents' names? |
