That would be Sarah Jane's mother because on her marriage cert it names her father as Christopher.
Thanks for that Peter

Are you sure the M.D. isn't U.D.? This would be Urban District.

I'm not sure what good electoral registers from 1916 would be because not that many people were eligible to vote at that date. However they will be kept at the nearest reference library to the address. Historical electoral registers are not online or on CD.

Kath,

Finally received the death certificate and she died in Nelson which is only a few miles out of Burnley so your guidance proved correct, thanks very much.

Not sure who she was living with in Nelson as her son William Charles True lived in Bolton.

Does anyone have access to an Electoral Roll for Nelson please? The year was 1916. This would give the Head of Household, and as her death certificate gives Seniltiy as one of the causes of death, I would think she must be living with another family.

On this certificate and in the where and when died section, there are the letters M.D. writen under the date and address. Can anyone enlighten me as to the meaning of this please?

The address on the death certificate was 4 Derby Street.

I will check the certificate and at least that will confirm whether its her or not. Will let you know.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I still feel that the death in Burnley is the nearest in age to "your" Sarah and it does have the correct middle initial. People don't always die in the place where they live. She could have been ill in hospital, moved into a nursing home, been visiting friends - any number of reasons for being in the Burnley registration district when she died.

Ages are often wrong on death certificates as it depends on who is giving the information and how well they knew the deceased - however I think 20 years out is rather too much to be believed.

I have her and Frederick still living in Liscard in 1911 on the 1911 census. They had been in this area for 20 years at least. Although the name and ages seem to fit, it seems more likely she died in Liscard. The name True isn't exactly a common one to the area.

What are your thoughts?

Mike.

That does add up ......but Burnley???
Will have to get the cert to check.
Thanks again.

You say that the death record on FreeBMD has her age out by 20 or more years. Are you sure you have the correct death record? There is this death where the age would be near enough right for a birth in 1833:-

Name: Sarah J True
Death Registration Month/Year: 1916
Age at death (estimated): 83
Registration district: Burnley
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 8e

Thanks for that.
It was just a thought that she may be lodging with her uncle after father died.

The Sarah on the 1861 census that Rootgatherer found does give her father as James so I don't think she is the one you are looking for.

Does that 1861 entry list Sarah as James' daughter or niece ?
My Sarah's father was Christopher..
