Sylvia
I have a record of Thirza with her parents being Jonathon Harding christened Swettenham Cheshire and married on 3/8/1807. Thirza was christened 4/3/1810 at the same place.
I have no idea if it is close to Goostrey.

Hello Sylvia
Yes I have been looking for Thirza's death and cannot find it anywhere. I was going to ask someone where else to look. She must have died as Samuel remarried. I have found some children Matilda Rachel, James (who was born in Cheshire) William Henry (baptised Cathedral Manchester, Sarah Hannah Baptised St George's Hulme Manchester and I am still looking for Alfred. Alfred may have been her last child as Samuel remarried about 1852/4. I got it off the IGI.
Thanks
Pat

This is from www.lan-opc.org.uk ... the Lancashire Online Parish Clerks site

I asked for Howard baptisms, with father Samuel and mother Thirza between 1835 and 1855, and this is the only one that came up

Baptisms: 15 Jul 1838 St Mary, Rawtenstall, Lancashire, England
Matilda Rachael Howard - Child of Samuel Howard & Thirza Stringer
Abode: Reeds Holin
Occupation: Engraver
Baptised by: Wm Whitworth
Register: Baptisms 1838 - 1847, Page 1, Entry 6
Source: LDS Film 1040344

I also looked for a burial for Thirza, couldn't find anything

SylviaInCanada Report 9 Mar 2010 01:41

and here they are in 1841 ..... although Thirza says she was born in ca 1810, Goostrey, Cheshire on the 1851 census

1841 Census

Name: Thirza Howard
Age: 30
Estimated birth year: abt 1811
Gender: Female
Where born: Lancashire, England

Civil parish: Manchester
Hundred: Salford
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England

Registration district: Chorlton
Sub-registration district: Hulme

Samuel Howard 20 b.ca 1821, Lancashire, Engraver
Thirza Howard 30
Matilda Howard 3
James Howard 1
Hannah Howard 15 <<<<<<<<<< actually noted as living by herself in another part of the house. no occupation given

The ages on the 1841 census for adults over the age of 15 are usually rounded down to the closest 5 ................... so they are usually up to 4 years too young. Also, relationships between members of a house or household are not given on this census.

BVRI records are not online as far as I know. Mine are a set of 16 cd's that I purchased many years ago. I understand they're no longer for sale. I believe they're different records from those on IGI but there is some overlap

Thanks Kath,
Is the BVRI the same as the IGI vital records? Or is that another web site?
Cheers

The BVRI is the British Vital Records Index.

According to the census returns William Henry Howard was born Hulme, Manchester, but I guess you already know that if you have his birth certificate.

Thanks Kath The girls have disappeared but who knows with a new wife. I do not think William Henry was happy as he would not tell anyone where he came from or what. So it has been difficult, but things are coming together.
Many thanks for your help
