if you haven't already got it, it might be worthwhile obtaining Frederick's birth certificate. He seems to have been born around the time, or just before, the 1891 census. It might well have an address on it ?

Unfortunately, we are unable to display the accompanying images of this census at present, despite extensive negotiation with the General Register Office for Scotland. Permission from them has not, as yet, been forthcoming. For this reason, and to enable you to continue with your family history research, Ancestry has heavily transcribed the Scottish Census records to ensure you have access to all key areas of information contained within this

Good bit of lateral thinking.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 28 Jan 2010 22:30

BUT how am I or another member supposed to know that

They might have been alive at the end of 1891 but not alive in 1901

Give up

Not sure where this could go, but found this for 1871. Most children seem to have middle name beginning 'C' - could this be relevant, maybe Chetland .....?

my original posting includes all the information that could be helpful in finding the family in 1891 - i deliberately left out children who were no longer alive and would not be on the census as they obviously would not appear on the census

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 28 Jan 2010 22:15

You have that info in front of you but members who try to help need to find that info to try and help you

Obviously not a success then

Eric

Eric Report 28 Jan 2010 22:11

to put the search in context, Florence was my grandmother

Eric

Eric Report 28 Jan 2010 22:05

yes I already knew about the marriage details (and the certificate should be 'in the post' as we speak)

but I do not think that knowing the name and occupation of his father will help find them in 1891, although it might help place him pre-marriage (but I cannot find any Chetlands in Scotland - father or son)

I have got to the point of wondering if he really was born a Chetland or if there has been a name change between birth and marriage - which might of course show up on the certificate

I also know about the othe two children, but neither made it to 1891 unfortunately
