Find Ancestors

I'm trying to determine whether my Great Aunt Miranda Smith - born 1885 in Derby - married Arthur Chatfield or George William Hall.
The marriage took place in Derby in 1906 so she should be on the 1911 but I'm totally useless at finding anyone on that census.
I'm just looking for his name - not asking anyone to use credits.

Cant locate either of the males on 1911 census. Could they have gone abroad?

I also can't find any births that would match either of the couples

Is it likely that the 2 Chatfields are brother and sister meaning that Miranda would have had to have married Arthur Chatfield.

I think this could be George William Hall - he is listed in the image as married 4 years with no children but this has been crossed out as there is no wife with him

The dates seem to fit but unfortunately he could just as easily have married Sarah Chatfield. Perhaps if I can locate her then the other groom must be Miranda's husband.

Can't see a death registration for Miranda Hall between 1908 and 1911.

Agreed re the possiblity of either wife - in 1901 Miranda's father worked in the railway works and George William was a Raiway Porter in 1911 but this doesn't show anything.

I would have thought that the two Chatfields were related but cousins marry and there is no sign of an obvious family in 1901. I haven't found the Chatfields in 1911 either

In 1911 William isn't listed as a widower

I looked for a Chatfield family in 1901 but just because Arthur married there doesn't necessarily mean he was living there in 1901 or indeed born there. Unfortunately neither Hall or Chatfield are unusual names.

I also checked deaths between 1906 and 1911 and came up blank.

Perhaps emigration is the only avenue left to explore.

There is certainly no sign of a Miranda in 1911 who was born in Derby that would match

Found a Laurence Breedon in chesterfield on 1911 with wife named as Myra (shortened form of Miranda?). They had been married 2 years.

It's certainly a possibility that by 1911 Miranda had married again but your pm gives Myra's place of birth as Liverpool and my Great Aunt was definitely a Derby girl.
I'll have another look at the deaths although there's no guarantee that she and her husband stayed in Derby after their marriage.

None of the above seem to be in the 1911 - but as I said at the beginning I've yet to find anyone on the 1911 - I must be doing something wrong :-(

I think the only way you will find out now is to buy the marriage certificate.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong....they just do not appear to be there unless they are totally mistranscribed.

I think you're right although I was hoping to avoid spending (more) money on this hobby (obsession).
I might just leave it as an either/or as she's not a direct ancestor.
