I am desperate, desperate I tell you :))))
I have spent hours trying to find the Hayhurst family on the 1851 Census. I have them in Lancashire in 1841, and in Westmorland in 1861
Details:-
Thomas Hayhurst, b. ca 1795, Sedbergh; d. 1868, registered Kendal. Elizabeth Hayhurst (nee Askew), b.ca 1800, Lancaster, Lancashire, d. 1875, registered Kendal Gilbert b. ca 1830, Whittington, Lancashire. d. 1886; never married Thomas b. ca 1832,Whittington, d. ca 1895; never married Robert b. 1834, Whittington. Not yet found after 1841 Eliza(beth) b. 1836, Whittington. Not yet found after 1841 Mary Ann b. 1838, Whittington, married Robert Taylor 1859, registered Kendal
Sedbergh is in Yorkshire, but is very very occasionally put in Westmorland
In 1841, the whole family were living at Millet Mill, Whittington, in the Hundred of Lonsdale (South of the Sands), Lancashire. Thomas Sr was a Miller
In 1861, Thomas, Elizabeth, Gilbert and Thomas were living at Mill Bridge, Stainton, Westmorland. Thomas was a Malster and Farmer of 53 acres. Gilbert was a Farmer of 63 acres, employing one labourer, and Thomas was a Farmer of 24 acres.
I have tried everything I know to find them on the 1851 Census
I have tried surname only, with date and without date of birth +/- 5 or 10 years, with and without county of birth
I have tried forename only (for all of them), as above
I have tried forename of each child with forename of father, mother or both.
I have tried year of birth +/- 5 or 10 years living in Whittington or Stainton. I even tried looking in Westmorland with just birth information!!
Can anyone find them in 1851, please???
That is all I am looking for, I have all the other information that I need.
Thomas Sr is OH's 4 x gt uncle, and I'd just like to complete the record.
EDIT:-
I should have said that there are two Gilbert Hayurst's b. ca 1830
Gilbert Hayhurst b. ca 1830, Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmoreland, with parents Christopher and Agnes is not the one. Probably closely related, but not mine.

Hi Sylvia
This is the only (very vague ) offering I have (1851).........
The parents are wrong, but Gilbert and Thomas do have a farming connection, plus the areas of 'Whittington' and 'Westmorland'.

Hi Alice
Yes, I have seen that one, thank you
Christopher and Alice are a separate family, the two Gilberts are very close in age, but one was born in Kirkby Lonsdale and the other in Whittington. They are very probably related!
The Hayhursts were a prolific family, and most of them were Millers and Farmers
........ and the early ones were Quakers, who moved regularly between Lancashire and Westmorland, the suggestion is that this was to avoid persecution for their religion.

Hi.
Take a look at this link and go right to the bottom of the first page! Is that your Robert?
Nothing spectacular but vaguely interesting!

WOW
It could well be, in fact probably is ...................... he married Elizabeth Askew in 1829 in Whittington.
and just look who was the malster at West Hall. Is it possible that Andrew Askew was Elizabeth's father????
Thomas' father was called Robert, although there was an uncle Thomas ...... but they seem to have stayed in Yorkshire.
Thank you for finding that.
a bit more information for the record
for those of you wondering what we are on about:-
