Don't you just love it when people don't stay with their postings. I have been trying to help people all day as I am stuck indoors and the only one that has replied to me is Lorri.

they don't seem to hang around for a couple of minutes even!!! some never come back at all!!

Happens all the time. I reckon only 1 in 5 of my replies are acknowledged by the OP, so I don't know if the info posted was what they where looking for or not. Quite often there is plenty more info to be had, but I these days I won't post until I know its relevant.

Mel..I think you're being a bit harsh.I've been at this lark for ages and it sometimes takes days for genuine people to acknowledge your work......the sort of queries that i sort out in Derbyshire can't be found in five monutes, and sometimes not five days.so why should an enquirer sit there waiting for an answer that may not come.........Most people are aware of the work involved, and it would pretty arrognat of them to think they're going to get an answer in minutes!1

As long as they Bookmark their enquiry and come back when they can..that's fine by me..............It's when they never come back that bugs me!!

I really try to get to people who have helped but I agree sometimes I'm not as quick as I could be. So here's a thank you to everyone who has helped me in the past. Have just sent a PM to someone who helped me in May and have updated them on my findings.

Well said Derek. Myself personally care for my 90 year old mother. Now when she shouts it means she wants immediate attention and as much as I would love to I cannot stay at the computer. May I add I always made a point of thanking all who have help me, and they are quite a few. Mainly, Janey and Sylvia. For lookups Whirley is a saint.
Thank you all again

Don't forget some people have no idea how to get back to threads - I PM them after a while just to check (have even kept my message so i can just change the name!!)

Sorry about that I was so frustrated with answering posts and not getting any replies with further info. I too look after my mother of 85 and know that when she wants something it has to be straight away. Thats the reason I did'nt come back to this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!! So you see I did it myself......................what a silly old fool I am.

It just helps to have your answers when I get frustrated and I then know I am not on my own.

Well I have to agree with you about members who post and disappear.

It is always the ones that do not give enough information and you have to ask questions

Some folks can feel they are being given the "3rd degree" .
Folks are asking for help...not patronizing...some helpers can come across as patronizing and no-construtive.

Not..all..but some.

I think Boogie is refering to me. Would somebody please look at her thread and see if I was being unreasonable.

I spent a lot of time looking for you Boogie, and am quite upset that you think I was being patronizing.

A lot of the Posters are just ungrateful and do not appreciate the amount of work that goes on.

I have just taken a look Potty, and I am of the opinion that you were most helpful, which I think you usually are.....sometimes the written word does not always come across as so and people take offence. We have seen it on these boards many times.

I also have the feeling that some of the newer folk think they are paying for a look up service !!!

I had a "thank you" pm yesterday from someone I helped ages ago,she had only just managed to find her thread again (!) and had expected a reply from GR

Elizabeth I think you could be right!!

I am satified now as I have just helped a lady on Records and found loads of info for her. She thanked me and sent me her email address.

So some people are gratefull I know but others just leave you to it.

Phew, Potty, and I just figured it was me being referred to ........ again. ;)

Claire - please please don't send PMs months later! By then, I for one may not have the least clue what you are talking about -- and even if I do, it could take me forever to find the thread the PM is about. Info should always go in threads (unless it's sensitive info about living people). A new post in the thread pops it to the top of the "my threads" list of anyone who posted in it.

As with most problems here, the primary fault lies with the site management. It should be possible to use a discussion board productively and properly without scouring the site for instructions, even if the important ones were actually here.

But I am still constantly gobsmacked by people who glom their "ads" or "listings" (as they are often called) onto a site without taking five minutes to see how things work there. I've posted on many internet boards in the last 15 years, but never without observing and reading for some time first. Anyone who took the time to read five threads here would grasp the process.

But then, most of them are busy looking at their "surname board", which may have three messages from 2004 and nothing else, since that's what all the emails from the helpful site management tell them to do.
