It was not compulsory to register births then so it might simply not have been registered

please can you help with the honani barham again his wife rossane barham born c1861 is living with him in the 1891 cencus, the thing is me and someone i have reunited with on genes reunited we both cannot find a birth record for him so we have come to a stand still, we have searched and searched unless we are missing someone or could he have changed his name please help thanks aiysha :0)
