If you wish to be 100% certain that you have been given the right details, you will need to purchase certs - without them, it is only speculation - especially as the names of the mothers differ wildly from those which you quoted.

Many thanks to all who have posted. I think I have been able to get lines of research sorted. I think the Stretton line is pretty well sussed back to Farmer John born C1771 via
Joseph (senior) born c.1813 who married Sarah - - - - - (?) from Lichfield born C1819.
They had Joseph born 1847,
Sarah born 1858,
Albert William born 1861
I have found the cert of marriage for Maria Maud Roberts and she has signed herself Maud Maria, probably because she was always called Maud.
(On her death Cert, my mother entered her as Maria Maud.)
The witnesses to the marriage were Sarah Elizabeth Roberts and Albert william Stretton. Therefore it seems pretty certain, if not 100%.
One little mystery is that there must be a H.M.Stretton somewhere, as I have a piece of needle work dated 1866 signed H.M.Stretton, perhaps that is where the Harriet Maud comes in and she was married to Charles. Will have to follow that up.
