msc, not sure if this will help but, when searching on the 1911 census, the District/County that are shown in the search results that come up are where the people are living, not, where the people were born. The children, Annie, James & Thomas were living in Dartford at the time of the 1911 census, it doesn't state that they were born there, but, they may have been, as no birthplace is given for them on the image, if you understand what i mean !. I'm going now before i confuse you any further lol.

Seeing as they are in Woolwich in 1901 there's also this:

Births Dec 1901
Coxall Nora Elizabeth Woolwich 1d 1299

But she died.

There's certainly room for Laura between Hector and Annie. I wonder where she is?

She gets married in Dartford later so she didn't die.

There aren't too many Coxalls born Dartford so I agree that Jim must be the one.

Have you seen this?

Births Dec 1902
Coxall Laura Winifred Dartford 2a 546

I'm sure it must be another sibling as she has the same name as her mother. However, I don't see her in 1911.

I hope the birth certificate turns out to be the right one.

It does seem to be the only possible one.

michael2 Report 24 Sep 2009 22:12

hi birdinanest thank you for your reply i have only just started on this side of the family i have not got as far as looking for marriages . msc

Wildgoose

Wildgoose Report 24 Sep 2009 22:05

I really doubt that James would be mistranscribed as 'Jim' but it is possible that is what his parents named him when they registered his birth. Perhaps later on they decided to be more formal for the census and recorded him as James. If you have followed his life through forwards, if I am making sense, was he Jim or James on his marriage certificate, for example?

hi thank you for your reply,s the reason i asked for the look up was so i can get the the birth ref to send for the cert i did pay for the transcript and he is on it . i have looked for the ref,s on free bmd also on ancestry they do not appear on either of the i think it must have been mistranscribed as jim i will have to send for that cert to see if it is the right one . msc

Wildgoose

Wildgoose Report 24 Sep 2009 21:58

In the message above mine, msc says 'I did pay to see the transcript'.

That's why I am a bit confused. It don't take much, though :-)

Wildgoose

Wildgoose Report 24 Sep 2009 21:47

I'm a bit puzzled. If you paid for the 1911 transcript and saw the siblings' birth place can you not see James' also?

michael2

michael2 Report 24 Sep 2009 21:43

hi all idid see jim coxall dartford on free bmd wonder if it,s been mistranscribed, i did pay to transcribe and got the family his sister annie and brother thomas where born in dartford thats why i thought he was born in dartford will try the advanced and see what happens. msc

Battenburg

Battenburg Report 24 Sep 2009 21:28

Im assuming you have found him on the 1911 census but havnt paid to see the transcript.

You could try using advanced search for him and putting Dartford as place of birth and see if the same one comes up. You can also use advanced search using occupation if you know from the 1901 census his fathers occupation
I did this for a member and the outcome was she at last found out what happened to her grandfather who disappeared after WW1.
From another source learnt he went to Australia leaving her grandmother and mother.
