Find Ancestors

There is a very good possibility that a half sister has been found and I would like to contact her but I do not want to do or say anything that may upset her as I do not know if she is aware that our Father had a previous family.

Does anyone have any tips on how to go about contacting her.

Have done a Southampton lookup for Karan and sent her a pm with the info I have found in case she doesn't come back to the board.

Alfred Henry Buckle who died in Southampton 2003 had his ashes scattered at the same spot as a Millicent Buckle who died in 1991 Southampton. Ancestry death record 1991 shows as Millicent Ivy M Buckle date of birth 7 Aug 1916

Looked up a birth for her and the only one is Millicent I M Meek 3rd qtr 1916 in Monmouth.

Regarding the marriage of Alfred Henry Buckle in Scarborough,there was a Alfred henry Buckle born Scarborough 1911.
So there were 2 different Alfred's,do you agree?

Hi, Thanks - I only have my Mothers marraige certificate dated 1st November 1930 which states my Father as Alfred Henry Buckle age 22 (he was born 11th May 1908) and his Father's name was Henery Buckle, occupation Labourer.

The only way to see if it is the same Alfred is to buy both marriage certs to see if his age and father's name and occupation are the same.

Hi Ann - I am Ann also (Karan's friend who is looking for any half siblings she may have).
I find your comments re Alfred Buckle's marriages very interesting and wonder if there is any way of proving if was was the same Alfred Henry Buckle who married Violet James in 1930 and Janet Horton in 1935.

The reason for asking is that my Mother was Violet Eleanor Ann James who married Alfred Henry Buckle in Nov 1930 and as far as I am aware I am their only child born in August 1945 after nearly 15 years of marriage.

I would really like to be able to check if this was the same man who married again in 1935.

There really is no way of telling unless you buy the cert and it shows up the same 2 parents..........are one of those your friend?

I will take a closer look and see if there are any more on BMD, but they are only indexed to a certain point, and then it means trawling through quarter by quarter for Buckle births......does your friend have a cut off date, did the parents split/divorce etc? If you do not want to put extra info on the thread you can always send one of us a private e-mail

A copy of the death certificate should confirm his place of birth and the informant may be a relative, who could help with your search.

From the 1911 census: the only Alfred Henry Buckle is the one living in Mansfield. You will need to buy credits if you wish to view the full page which should give you his parents etc. Just google 1911 census - really easy to use.

If you look at Freebmd, you will see a couple of Alfred H. Buckle marriages but it is hard to say which is the right one until we are sure of an area.

I found a couple of marriages re a Alfred henry Buckle

June 1935 to a Janet F Horton at Scarbro
1930 to a Violet EA James at Chepstow

Doing a quick swearch could not find any children re ms/Horton, but regarding Buckle /James :

A death record is only as good as the person submitting it's memory of details, however they seem to be pretty specific about his date of birth. A copy of the birth cert would hopefully give a fathers name.
