It is the 1871 census for Jane Rogers abt 1819 Hemel Hempstead, spouse is Frederick Rogers abt 1820 Hemel Hempstead, children include Charles Rogers abt 1855 Hemel Hempstead.
The address is not very clear i think it begins with an L but not sure anyone with better eyes have any suggestions?

Having a look! But I want to know if the address really says Wet Bottom???
Anyway, looking on previous page the first letter is almost certainly an F. There is someone with the occupation of "fossil" carter too. What on earth is this I wonder.

Strange i wonder what it is then, there appears to be quite a few of them? theres one on the same page as my relation just above him on the census.
I just thought it looks like F_ossil or Hossil and the G's in what we think is Digger are different to those in Ag Lab

Also is a G.W.R Goods porter, a Great Western Railway goods porter?

ceri Report 6 Aug 2009 23:48

After looking up a fossil digger on google, it would appear that there were 20 men employed on the 1871 census as fossil diggers in Cambridgeshire.
They were digging up Coal/coprolites?
