Update - I have recieved the death cert for the 7 yr old. I don't have it with me as I type but I'm pretty sure it's not my T J Nye. his surname is listed as Neal on the cert. And he fell from a window or balcony in an Army community barracks. Very sad. Back to the drawing board for me I think.

Thanks both of you for your help.

Samantha,

You need to contact the GRO and ask them why the names differ. Could be they made a mistake and you might get a refund.

The name does also say Nye so unlikely but it would have been useful to know beforehand, seeing as I have no Neals in my family.

I have found a possible marriage

Name: Thomas J Nye (also Hye)
Spouse: Walthousen
Marriage: Apr-May-Jun 1935 - Brentford, Middlesex

I think I 'll have to order the cert for details. Although he'd only be about 17.

This is oh so frustrating. Is there a way of looking at records locally without ordering all the time?

Brentford is only a matter of miles from me.

thanks
