So it looks like mother and father was not married

bit of a long shot but getting the certificate will sort it out

I see your grandmother had a different surname to her father, was she a spinster when she married in 1932?

A quick search through freebmd turns up many possible births for Ethel Barnes in 1906.... do you have an actual birthdate for her to narrow the search?

Furniss/Furness in Lancashire,Critchett in Devon and London, Keemish/Camish/ Kemish from Hampshire then Cambridge, Copper and Godden in Kent, Spink/Spynk in Norfolk and Cambridge

My grandmothers name was Ethel Barnes d.o.b. 1906
Who married my grandfather Edward Charles Blay 28/03/1932 aged 26 In Cobham, Surrey.
She died aged 34 in Jul/Aug/Sept 1940.
She left my mother, aged 3.
All we know is on her marriage certificate was her fathers name Ernest John Newman. We have no idea where she came from or where her father or any other family are.
I would be really thankful for any help or ideas as Im now coming up blanks on all avenues. Thanks
