I have a birth cert which states the mother as Sarah Ann Hands formally Waterfalls late Storer, my question is, is her maiden name Waterfalls and her first married name was Storer??

Late storer indicates a previous marriage

One of mine said "Alice Mary Moncar, late White, nee Brewer". Brewer was her maiden name and White her married name from her first marriage.

Does it definitely say "formerly ... late ..." in that order?

Thanks Lindsay
Jill the date was 1877 in Birmingham

Well I'm trying all sorts of combos for the marriages but so far nothing ...

I couldn't find a marriage for Sarah and husband Thomas hands ( father listed on b/c of William born 31/1/1877 ) either but from 1881 census there was Charles c1874 and Charlotte c1880

How sure are you of Storer? Could it be Stokes (although this is a bit late ...):

possible that Sarah's name was misspelt as I think I've just found her in 1861 as sarah Ann Waterford on index, difficult to read census but one of the other grand daughters was down as Waterfall.
just thought if she'd married before her name on marriage index would be Storer so don't think that's their marriage.
Thanks for looking anyway

Trouble is without at least one of her marriage certs to giver her father's name which would link to her birth it might not be the right one and you could end up following the wrong tree.

Have you managed to find her in any censuses with her parents?

There's a tree on ancestry which shows her parents as John Waterfall and Jane Coleman. It does not have any info on her other than birth and baptism - which also shows on familysearch. Not sure how reliable that info is.

The one I mentioned first wasn't her as it was the wrong area of Derbyshire, think I've found her in 1861 in Ashbourne with parents Thomas and Ann, strange though as they have another daughter Sarah age 18. The 1881 census has her ( Sarah Ann ) birth place as Ashbourne so this could be her, do you think??

LiverBird1

LiverBird1 Report 26 Nov 2008 00:45

that's the 1861 I was looking at with 2 Sarahs!!,
the parents John Waterfall and Jane Coleman could be for the first 1861 census I was looking at, the birth place was Ironville Derbyshire and the grandparents were Coleman
