CLW2005 Report 4 Nov 2008 14:43

He's just down as a visitor - no relationship noted.
address is 'centre of town' Alton

I've tried googling Wesleyan Colleges, Staffordshire
& Theological Colleges Staffordshire

Nothing yet!

That's it I'm afraid - but would be a good idea to purchase that marriage cert from gro.gov - they cost £7 - well worth it!
His father's name & occupation should be on it

wow.....how on earth did you manage to find that?
If it says Weslyan Student - I would think it more than likely that you have found the right Joseph.
Does it give a full address?? or any other info?
what was the relationship /occupations of the Collis & Follows family please.
( last question.......i promise)

this may be a possibility.....
actual image looks like 'wesleyan' student
the wesleyan has been crossed through!
The place of birth is given as Bristol - but Bristol & Gloucester were more 'together' then I think!

CLW2005 Report 4 Nov 2008 14:25

have checked all 12 pages of 1861 census for Sampford Brett, Somerset which is where Mary was in 1861
no joy!!

Still trying!

Gillian Report 4 Nov 2008 14:23

That confirms the Somerset connection - thank you.

so, he didnt marry until 1865 - where on earth was he in 1861???
I know now that the first two of their children were born in Crewe Cheshre ( as a minister, he got around a bit)!

Name: Joseph Workman
Year of Registration: 1865
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Williton
County: Somerset
Volume: 5c
Page: 541 (click to see others on page)

took another look at the 1871 census
it shows that Joseph's wife came from Williton, Somerset -
this is the only marriage I can find - but the spouse facility is missing
It is possible that they married in Mary's home town

I have this:
Marriages Mar 1860
Baldwin Mary Ann Gloucester 6a 334
Workman Joseph Gloucester 6a 334
I wonder if this could be Joseph's marriage to Mary?

This is more probable:
Marriage:
Joseph Workman 1865 Williton Somerset
JAS 5c 541
Hosegood Mary Williton 5c 541

I know that Joseph lived in Somerset for quite a while.

Gillian Report 4 Nov 2008 13:56

Thanks Chritine - appreciate your help.
Have tried to make contact, but they are not connected unfortunately.

If I can find Joseph in 1861 - it may help to tie him in as THE Joseph that we have found in the earlier census ( so that I know that I really do have the correct family ) ............Im a little concerned that it may be the wrong family in 1841 & 51 & 61 as MY Joseph - who became a Weslyan Minister , seems to have had a dad who was a Brewer of Beer???

I dont have access to Ancestry Im afraid, so cant even look in 1861. Hence, all help really is appreciated.

if you look at the 'search trees' option at the top of this page -
there are a couple for Joseph Workman b.Gloucester
may be worthwhile contacting them to see if they have connections.

Joseph had aprox 25 'ministry's' during his time as a minister - hence the children were born at various locations around the country.

Gillian

Gillian Report 4 Nov 2008 11:38

Yes, could be I suppose. Is anyone living with her?

I am not 100% sure that Joseph Workman - the minister - IS the Joseph Workman - son of' Charles Workman, Brewer & his family that we have found in
1871 & 1881.
I need to find a true connection between them all
( without having to buy all the certs)

Sometime you can spot a mother or father in law or an address or something to really tie people together.

Many thanks for helping
