The marriage was at Ripponden Rd Methodist Chapel. I've just looked at the records held on microfilm at Oldham but I think that particular one may be at Manchester Central Library. If you're not in a hurry I will be able to have a look - to save £7!

when was Thomas born? Oldham is the one area on lancashirebmd.org.uk where the mother's maiden name is shown for births before 1912

I have him as being born around 1888. and according to a sourcr, he lived at 27 Austerberry street, Oldham above town, at the time of 1891 census.

As there are several births of a THomas Wild in Oldham between 1887 & 1889 - all with different mother's maiden names you really do need that marriage cert to confirm father's names and his age. If the death record is the right one he was born in 1870 (could that one have been his father?)

I've just been to have a look at the marriage record of Thomas and Alice Ann Curtney.

Sept 16th 1877, Christ Church Glodwick

Alice Ann Curtney, 24, spinster, card room hand, Lees Road. Father James Wolstencroft, minder.

Thomas signed the register, it was the mark of Ann. Witnesses were George Dutton and Ann Dutton

As well as Alice Ann, b1853, mmn Courtenay, there is Abel Courtenay b1849 mmn Courtenay.

I haven't found Alice Ann on the 1861 census (I think Abel died Sept. quarter 1859) so have been searching the 1851 census for Abel. Searches for ANYONE named Abel born 1849 ish returned no results, but have just found Able Courtney...

may be transcribed incorrectly but I will be able to check that next week.

on Lancashirebmd.org the name for Elizabeth has an alternative of Jackson.

If you look on this site (free) for the marriage just using William's name, the name Fowler comes up with an *. Click on the name and it will give the alternative and all the reasons why there might be a difference.

on the original images on freebmd it is CoTeman, so it seems to have some confusion from the origional entry.

I've been today to look at the marriage certificate of Thomas Wild and Alice Dunn at Manchester Central Library. It is not available on microfilm to print out, had to book an appointment for the marriage certificate book to be brought from the archive section. (so precious, had to take ID with me, and use only pencil not pen to make notes...

8th October 1919, Ripponden Road Wesleyan Methodist Church, Oldham

Thomas Wild, 49, widower, occupation iron planer, 53 Herbert Street Oldham, father Robert Wild (deceased) night watchman

Alice Dunn, 28, spinster, 227 Ripponden Rd., father Raymond Dunn (deceased) plasterer

both signed the register rather than 'the mark of', witnesses were Samuel Wild and Gertrude Goodwin Ball.
