I have the marraige certificate for my G Grandad Arthur Goodchild (1896-1963) from Grundisburgh Suffolk and Violet S L O'Hara, no one in my family has heard of Violet I only came across the marraige when i was trying to find the marraige between Arthur and my G Grandma.

The certificate says:
Violet was 22 at time of marraige on the 5th dec 1919 so birth is c1897,
her full name looks to be Violet Sybil Leminstow O'Hara (I'm not certain it is Leminstow as its unclear but it also appears to be the middle name of her father),
she was a spinster,
she lived The Avenue, Woodbridge, Suffolk at time of marraige,
her father looks to be Patrick Leminstow? (i can't read it clearly) O'Hara who was a farmer,

Can anyone help me find anything more about Violet?
i still can't find Violet on free BMD or family search

O'Hara is an Irish name--could Violet have been born in Ireland. It's possible that she may have gone to England for work like so many other Irish females.

The marraige cert is all i know about her so it is very possible that she was born in Ireland is there somewhere to check the records from there?

I would really like to find her death record so i know if her death could be the reason why my Grandad had children with another partner but I can't even find Violet's death?!

Hi
Sorry my post before was a bit misleading.
I do not know, I can't actually be certain that he was married the second time I was hoping to find out about his 1st partner to proove that he definately wasn't or that he may have been.

All i do know is that his 2nd partner was Susan (Also known as Dorothy) Pegg she was born in 1903 so the marraige can't have been before c1921 and their 1st child wasn't born till 1937 so I'm assuming it is closer to this time. I would also assume if they were married it would have been in Suffolk.

I've now reworded my previous post to make more sense

Kristine

Kristine Report 9 Oct 2008 15:19

would his death record say how many people and who he was married to?

Joan

Joan Report 9 Oct 2008 15:22

It would say widower of................
The informant to the death may be a clue.
Did he and Violet have children between them ?
Did arthur and 'Dorothy' marry ?
Do you know the child born in 1937 ?

Sorry, lots of questions but I am thinking aloud and around the houses . if you know what I mean

Don't be sorry any help would be great as I haven't got a clue what to do next?

I don't know if Violet and Arthur had any children all I know of Violet is from her DC.
I dont know if Arthur and "Dorothy" married I can't find a record for it if they did and their daughter has her doubts that they were.
The child born 1937 is my Grandma April Anne Goodchild she also has a sister Susan born 1940

No I don't have her death certificate as I can't find it anywhere, thats another part of the mystery surrounding Violet, all I could think of is that maybe she and Arthur seperated and she went back to Ireland and thats why I can't find it.

Kristine

Kristine Report 9 Oct 2008 16:15

Have either of you managed to find anything?

Kristine

Kristine Report 9 Oct 2008 16:32

thanks for trying anyway, I guess this is just a puzzle in my tree i'll have to leave unsolved

Joan Report 9 Oct 2008 16:50

Hi Kristine
I can't find anything either. I have looked for Violets death.
Also looked for children born to Arthur and Violet.
Can't find a marriage for Arthur to Dorothy.
Can't find the O'Hara's on any English census.
Could be many many reasons for not beng able to find the truth......
Violet became pregnamt and so went 'home to Ireland' to have the baby.
Arthur was in the war, Violet didn't come back to England - deserted Arthur. Arthur met Dorothy, couldn't marry because Arthur wasn't divorced. Had children and gave them rightly the Goodchild name. Never got round to marry or married many years later when and if they found out that Violet was no more.
Phew, I'm rambling; must go and put kettle on and calm down.
Consider buying the certificates of his death and April's birth; you don't know what they may reveal
Keep at it

Joan

Joan Report 9 Oct 2008 17:02

Are you ordering from GRO in Southport ?
If so. You don't need the date but the registration number. Do you have that ?
