Sarah

Sarah Report 27 Sep 2008 22:11

I'm trying to find my great grandmother Sarah Bellerby - I don't know if she was SarahAlice or SarahAnn. I belived she was SarahAlice to begin with.

My initial lead took me to her father called George Bellerby (b. 1854); showing SarahAlice (b.1892), sister Eliza and twin sisters MaryAnn and Jane.

Upon checking with my grandmother (the wife of Sarah Bellerby's son) it turns out Sarah Bellerby actually had sisters called Eliza, Bertha and Ethel. This Eliza had a son called Denis/Dennis. Now my grandfather (Sarah's son) is called Dennis and he is one of 10 children. My granddad's brothers and sisters are Tommy, Joe, Etty, Pat, Terry, Ken, Mary, Barry and Jimmy. I believe each family member was born in Stockton-on-Tees.

I'm so lost! Each lead shows 7-10 children all with such simliar names and in the end, sisters and brothers are now confused with nephews and nieces - I wonder if anyone can help?!

Regards,

Sarah Rachel Twigg

If Sarah is your direct ancestor...........how does the line get from you to her?

Sarah Report 27 Sep 2008 22:16

I'm looking for information on my great grandmother; Sarah Bellerby.

I now believe she was married to a Thomas Riddle however I can not seem to find him at all - No dates, no years, nowhere near my area (Stockton-on-Tees)

It appears I'm stuck!

On a quick search of the boards, you have this same post in three other places.

House rule: do not post the same content more than once.

Sarah, you need to delete the three spare posts before anyone wastes time doing the same research as has been done here.

Sarah Bellerby is my great grandmother - Her son Dennis Riddle is my grandfather; my Mother's (Julie Dawn Veronica Twigg (nee Riddle) Father.

From the trees I've seen and info. on census', I seem to see that Sarah Bellerby had sisters Mary Ann and Jane who were twins along with Eliza, Charlotte and a few brothers, however; now, my grandma (Dennis' wife) says Sarah Bellerby only had sister's Bertha, Ethel and Eliza... but I can't match this up?

It's so confusing :(

Sorry

There is a Sarah A. Bellerby born in 1892 in Stockton-on-Tees on the Tees Valley Indexes but I can't find a corresponding birth in the Complete birth index on Ancestry.

No you aren't stuck.........

Start with yourself................

One of your parents is a descendant of Sarah......which one?

Now.......who were his/her parents?

In other words which of your grandparents was Sarah's child?

When was he/she born? And where?

Which of them was Sarah's child?

Ignore all the brothers, sisters etc......concentrate entirely on the DIRECT line............

If she married a Riddle then she was Sarah E Bellerby.

Buy this to get her age and father.

When was Dennis born? You need to buy his cert. to confirm names first.

Sarah Report 27 Sep 2008 22:31

Thomas was Sarah's husband; yes, to whom she had the 10 children to - I believe there may be more children however they may have passed away at birth.

So a Sarah E Bellerby could be the one?

Thank you very much to those who have helped me with this. I'll try my best to go down this route.

Sarah

Sarah Report 27 Sep 2008 22:34

My grandfather Dennis was born on May 1st 1933 - A 1902 birth for Sarah Elizabeth does sound more correct to be honest as Dennis was the 3rd oldest of the 10 children so that would put Sarah Alice (who I thought it was initially) at about 41 when she had her first few children.

It must be Sarah E - I'll go down this route - Thank you very much for helping me :)

It's a load of the old shoulders
