Sorry to ask again, but do you records say where Sarah and Jonathan were married?
And do you have any records on William Garner, Catherines husband?

Thanks again

Kelly Report 3 Aug 2008 18:21

So on the above information, catherine has left home and am i right in thinking that she may have named her son after her younngest brother?

doddsy1 Report 3 Aug 2008 18:16

It looks as though Kelly is right
1841 Heswall
Jonathan Birch 45
Sarah 45
Thomas 20
George 15
Ellen 14
Jonathan 8
SAMUEL 9

I think that Jonathan and Sarah's ages have been "rounded down" and are probably older than 45 and it's still possible that they are Catherine's parents as she was baptised Oct 1812 and her parents were married in April 1812.
I think that Samuel Garner/Birch is probably Catherine's child.
There are deaths for 2 Jonathan Birch's before 1851 and two for the name Sarah Birch before 1851 so there's no way to find out their true age

Sorry Seaham Lass

Just looked and i have Samuel down as being born in 1838 so a baptism in 1837 would not fit. Maybe they are different people? ALso, the transcrbie yuo agev from Ancestry, states that Samuel was the stepson of Catherine?

Hi Seaham Lass

Well that would make so much sense!

Thank you so much for the information, you have given me a lot to go on.

Thanks again

The info is from ancestry.co.uk and they aren't deliberate spelling errors - I just copy and paste the information as it was transcribed.
I'm looking at the IGI baptisms in Haswall and am beginning to think that Samuel Birch might be Catherine's younger brother.
There is a baptism for a Catherine Birch in Haswall in 1812 which is about the right time and then a one for Samuel Birch in 1837 and both are listed as being baptized to Jonathan and Sarah Birch (nee Alcock)

Hi Seaham Lass

Thank you so much for getting infor so quickly!!

Just a few questions - Where ir says Samuel Brich do you mean Birch? And is Samuel the stepson of Catherine or William? Also, you have put mother as Patherine, should that be Catherine? and the surname you state as gardner, i am looking for Gardner, is this the same family?

Im sorry to ask so many questions, ive just had so many problems with this lot, ive got to make sure its right!!!

Final question - where did you get this info???

Thanks again

Hi dea

The marriage cert says father is William Garner Labourer, and witnesses were George Dean and Dinah Mason. Residence at time of marriage only says Wallasey and occupation of both fathers was a labourer.

Thanks

doddsy1 Report 3 Aug 2008 17:34

This could be the marriage ...
William Garner to Catherine Birch Sept quarter 1839 in Liverpool.
So either Catherine had been married before to a Mr Birch or she had Samuel outside of marriage

The marriage cert does state his father but someone who PM'd me via GR stated that Samuel may of been adopted as they also have him on their tree and when i responded they never got back to me!!

Kelly Report 3 Aug 2008 17:12

Hi Dea

Thanks for the super fast response!!

All the info i have is as follows -

Samuel Garner b 1838 in Heswall, Cheshire.

He married Janet Gillespie b 1840 in Scotland on 24/10/1858 at St Pauls Church, Seacombe.

They had children Lilian b 1862, Mary b 1863, William b 1865, Elizabeth b 1868, John b 1869, Janet b 1872, Samuel b 1874.

All i know about Samuels parents are: His father was i think, William Garner b c 1818 possibly in Cheshire and was a labourer and his mother may of been Catherine. No other details are known and it is rather frustrating as i cant go back any further!!!!

Any help would be just fantastic!!

Kelly x
