Have you any idea what your gramps mother's maiden name was?

Found this
Crowland (modern usage) or Croyland (medieval era name and the one still in ecclesiastical use) is a small town in south Lincolnshire, England, positioned between Peterborough and Spalding

Do you have his death certificate? Do English ones mention the mother's name? What was his father's occupation on the wedding certificate?

I have an ancestor that had a son before her marriage and he was registered in her maiden name. In the later census his surname was the same as her husbands. He kept that name all his life even though it was not his birth name. Perhap your grandfather was born before his mother's marriage.

I have checked Crowland and it comes under Spalding 7a. I put marriages for William Lane and there is a marriage comes up for 1909 Spalding 7a but 2 males and only one brides name.. That could be the parents marriage. If it was the right one and you had the mother's maiden name from the marriage certificate it could help you perhaps. Irene

ROBERTS Florence Spalding 7a 351

This could be the missing female wrongly transcribed. The numbering starts at 851...this is the only 351 listed.

Probably not the right couple as there is this birth for 1911

Marriage certificates do not name the mother only the father.

Irene

Irene Report 5 Jul 2008 09:59

Pam the bride of his father would be his mother which would show her maiden name. Irene
