I have Emily Minnie Bridges born 1887 who first married an Alfred Wood (date unknown) who had four children Alfred, Emily, Florence and Mary. Alfred then died and Emily remarried Horatio Nelson Hall (date unknown) and then went onto have another six children the first of which was Edward Thomas Hall born in 1923. Could anyone please spot either marriage? I have looked on FreeBMD and found nothing. I do know that Emily died in 1971 but I have absolutely no-one to ask for any further details, sorry.

Many thanks for anyone's spare time

Any area to look Sue?

Sue

Sue Report 28 May 2008 12:31

Sorry - never thought of that!!! London - she was born in St Pancras and the first child of the second marriage was born in Hackney.

Sue Report 28 May 2008 12:33

As far as I am aware he was born in Islington in 1880 and died Hackney 1956. Can't be sure that they actually did marry cause that's the details I cant find for either, lol

I have looked at marriages from 1920 to 1924 can't see any for Horatio Hall.

The years you are looking for for the Horation marriage (1920-1923) aren't yet fully transcribed on freebmd - have you searched the complete index on Ancestry?

Sue

Sue Report 28 May 2008 12:42

Spotted that one Alyson but discounted that because not London.

You would have thought that with a name like Horatio Nelson Ridley Hall he wouldn't be difficult to find!

I just can't believe I can't find either of the marriages

Was he previously married or was there another one with that wonderful name?
A Horatio Nelson Hall married in 1904, Sunderland to either Sarah Reevel Fulton or Isabella Helm.

Thank you ValT - don't know how I missed it - but easily done I suppose - certainly searched that year. At least it will help me find dates of birth for children possibly and then perhaps find his birth and death, lol

Sue

Sue Report 28 May 2008 12:48

Margaret honestly don't know - he was born in London, died in London and the children were born in London (as far as I am aware). It's the wife who is our direct link so really know very little

Sue

Sue Report 28 May 2008 12:51

ValT how did you find the marriage - it doesn't show up any female names on FreeBMD to match Wood?

Sue

Sue Report 28 May 2008 12:53

Sorry Potty just seen your reply - not tried that one yet - I seem to get in a muddle on that site (probably me)

Sue

Sue Report 28 May 2008 13:11

In theory then (lol) it should be easy to find the second marriage shouldn't it?

Sue

Sue Report 28 May 2008 13:20

Yes that's what I usually search for - the first child of the second marriage was born on the 21st August 1923 - Edward Thomas Hall - as shown on his death certificate

Sue

Sue Report 28 May 2008 13:24

Just double checked that birth entry - the mother's maiden name is shown as Bridges which is correct. Would be much easier sometimes if they used their previous married name.

Potty

Potty Report 28 May 2008 13:28

Are you sure that Alfred died? Could he have done a runner?

Sue

Sue Report 28 May 2008 13:49

Now there you have me Potty!!!! I think as far as I can recall - was told that he had died - don't you wish you listened more when being told the family stories - long before I ever became interested in family history. This is on my husband's side of the family and there is just no-one left to ask more's the pity.

P.S. To compound the problems I currently live in Spain and most of my paperwork is back in England but I am almost certain that I have no further information on him - so everything has to be done via internet

With thanks to you that replied to this thread - came home and hubby had an old letter tucked away!!!! It seems that Alfred Wood died in WW1 and second hubby was actually born Horatio Nelson Ridley (adopted by Hall) arrggggggghhhh so I gave you false information and I probably need to start looking for a Wood and Ridley marriage.

Again my apologies
