hi everyone, thank you for all the information, sorry I've not been near the computer since my last post. I was hoping Robina may have had children but looking through the posts of census details from the 1881 it doesn't look as if any of hers survived. I've been looking for a Daniel/Donald Taylor who accompanied my great grandmother when she married and left Inverness to live in Portsmouth with her new husband. I was trying to work out which of my great great grandmothers brothers this Daniel/Donald is related to.

i think she must have remarried is it possible to check for a Robina born 1853/4 living in Inverness,
I haven't got ancestry but using their search two possibles come up on the 1881 census

Robina Sutherland and

Robina McDonald.
The first is very likely as its her maiden name.

Do you have any idea of what her maiden name was?
