What a star! I have now checked the records and I believe the entry you gave me is the right one, even though the entry shows Gooden it is Godden on the original.

Kate's sister Elizabeth married James Godden in 1890. In 1891 Elizabeth and her 5 month old daughter Mabel were visiting her parents so Kate must have been sent to look after James at Snaggs Hall in her absence. Makes perfect sense.

Another piece of the puzzle done. Thank you so much for your help and persistence. I really do appreciate it.

Have just looked at the census sheet for the Taylor's and it lists Kate Osborne as a Widow aged 40!!!!! Goodness knows how they got 17 out of that!

So she definitely isn't that one.

Don't I know it. Trouble is I don't know of a reason why she would have gone to Lancashire as I haven't found any connection to any Taylor's. There was an older girl in the family but she married a Godden by the look of it and was in Sussex in 1891.
