Find Ancestors

Hi, I am trying to trace my maternal grandmothers' family.
Her maiden name was Maud, Maria Roberts (or possibly Maria Maud)
Her father was Robert Francis Roberts (born 1856) and her mother was Sarah Elizabeth (nee Stretton b1857)
Roberts' parent were James and Harriet Anne Roberts.
Sarahs' parents were Joseph and Harriet Maud Stretton.

The only clue I have of place of origin is a photo of James taken in a studio in Wem.
I believe that Robert Roberts was a railway clerk and that there was a family connection with coal mining.
My mother thought that this branch of the family originated in Llanelly.
Would really be pleased if anyone could give me any info on missing dates, as I would dearly like to delve further back into the Welsh side of the family.

If not, I would strongly advise that you obtain it to verify your info, which, on the basis of census returns, seems not to be accurate

Hi,
Thanks for all the info. I think I may have cracked it as far as Robert F. Roberts is concerned. The info supplied by Mel and David seems to fit with yours, as they also mention Maria Maud's siblings.
Maria Maud Roberts (Born 22/9/1888) married Harry Lawrance (born 26/6/1883) on 28/8/1915.
They had two children, Kenneth Stretton Lawrance and Margaret Kathleen Lawrance who was my mother.
If you have any info on Sarah Elizabeth Strettons' ancestors or James Roberts' (Who may have Robert as a first christian name) I would be very grateful.

2. Hi again. It took me a while to get round to finishing my last post due to interuptions, I have just caught up with you posts about Joseph Stretton.
My mother did tell me there was a farmer on her mother's side of the family, but she didn't know who. So it seems this thread matches up as well.
