If annie Heron was married previously, then Maud Heron's birth (Dumbartonshire) will give the date and place of her parents' marriage. You might just be lucky enough to view the register entry online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk as births up to 1909 are available online. Credits are £6 for 30 - 1 credit to view search results and 5 to view / download register entry. That will leave you some credits to look for Annie's birth and maybe you'll get lucky and get Angus's for your £6 too!

Well hopefully, Dave they have found the same information and come to the same conclusions as Christine2 as I think she has been right on the ball with this one!

Can you come back when you have had a look at what you wife has found and let us know if it ties in please?

that sounds about right and Anne brought Donald up. We had only just started and they have been on it every day i assume and got all the information some how.

It will be interesting to see what they have then. I thought from your initial post that you had only just started and knew very little.

I think your theory about the Mclean/Crosbie family connection may be right. There is a marriage in July-Sept 1933 in Birkenhead of James Crosbie to Annie M Mclean.

Not sure where they got it from, i haven't seen what they done but my wife said that they have done the tree back to 1800s so can't say anything till i've seen what they have done.

Florence death does look right so it sounds like her and my wife has her as being born around 1908.
My wife said that they have Alex's father as being Hugh Mclean.

I have PM'd you some possible siblings of Donald (1939) as they could easily still be alive.

If this is the right family, and I strongly suspect it is, then Alexander would have been too young to marry in 1933 if he had been born in 1920 as you thought. So yes, I believe he was born in 1912.

This makes her born about 1909. You would need the Alexander and Florence marriage to find out her fathers name before you could find a birth for her. There are far too many Florence Jackson births to hazzard a guess.

So Alexander was actually born in 1912 because we've had that he was born in 1920 which is what Donald told us. It all does sound right what your saying and my wife found out that Florence is a possibility of Donalds mother. Donald mother died about a year after he was born. Not sure of her age or anything though so i would assume it wasn't long after that he was adopted because he grew up thinking Alex was his uncle so i think he was adopted by someone else in the family who married a Crosbie and i think it was Annie Maud Mclean.

It is a bit confusing Dave, mainly because the Mclean/Heron children appear to have been born when their parents (Annie Heron and Angus Mclean were living together but before they married in Birkenhead in July-Sept 1934 (see post above). They were registered in the name of Heron but after the marriage 2 of them at least appear to have been re registered as Mclean.

It’s my guess that either or both Annie and Angus had been married before and still married to other people, so couldn’t marry until the other spouse/spouses had died. Judging by the 1911 census with Annie Heron (32) born Renfrewshire, Maud Heron (20 months) born Dumbartonshire, John Heron (6 months) born Birkenhead and Angus Mclean (38) born Argyleshire – I would assume that any previous marriages took place in Scotland, so you would need credits on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ to find out.

I believe that Annie and Angus went on to have several more children before the marriage as listed by rootgatherer (above). Including Births - Sep 1922 - Heron Donald M (Mothers maiden name Heron) Birkenhead 8a 873 (the brother who died in the war) and Sep 1912 - Heron Alexander McL (Mothers maiden name Heron) Birkenhead 8a 976, the father of Donald born 1939.

Alexander would appear to have married Florence Jackson in July-Sept 1933 and the marriage is listed twice, under Alexander Heron AND Alexander Mclean. They then went on to have Donald in 1939. All these details are listed above.

I suspect that the marriage you had found previously between a Mary A Heron and a Kenneth Mclean was a coincidence. Of course you need certificates to prove all this.

If this is the right family, I wonder why Donald was adopted out and when? That would be the next thing to try and solve I think. Did they die or were they divorced etc?

Could someone please try and make sense of this, i'm getting a bit confused as to who's who now. Donald Mclean born in 1939 is my starting point and as far as we know Alex Mclean was his father and Alex's brother was another Donald Mclean both born around 1920.

Thankyou for the info so far, i have tried searching trees but not found much as still not 100% on Mary's date of birth. I'm hoping to work backwards yes, but it isn't easy due to my wifes grandad Donald being adopted and being called Donald Crosbie. Alex could of been called Angus and his middle name be Alex.

Could his name have been Angus not Alex ?
