Hi Susan

Thanks for that....

John Capel was married to Mary Watkins and the evidence is -

We have the marriage of them and in the church in Cumnor it shows she dies there.
Also we have the family name of Watkins right throught our family?
I suppose there is nothing more for me to confirm it...

Hi Sally

I finally found the marriage cert of william Capel and Mary Roberts,I was hoping to be able to read the witt's names but that was impossible.
They read Thos B??? Wumphoney and what looks like Noreen Charles,it is very hard to read.

I can find nothing for a marriage for John and Mary
anywhere,except the one posted.

Can you tell us how you know he married a Mary Watkins, what is the source of your info for that as I have found other Marys that he could have married

Have you tried schools in the area,he had to go to school somewhere.

Hi Susan,

William's marriage to Mary Roberts shows John Capel as father (Wheelwright), he is living in Randolph St of full age and a bachelor, servant.

I know that John has two 'll's in the marriage but spello's do happen and am 100% sure that all is true.

So......really I need to try to get the details of the marriage and see (and cross fingers) that someone of her family were witnesses.....yeah a break through maybe???????

Hi Sally
Can you post the details of Williams marriage please, maybe we can find something there,IE witt's fathers details

I am finding no other ref for a marriage for John and Mary other than the one posted and that one is the wrong spelling for Johns last name .

Vicci

Vicci Report 15 Mar 2010 06:39

Your best bet is to get the full details from the parish register of the marriage, ie witnesses etc , maybe her father's name will be listed.
It may also say whether she was from that parish or elsewhere.
Witnesses to the marriage could be parents or siblings.

Without knowing where she was from finding her parents is difficult.

Hi Sue,
Sorry.....Cumnor is a little village just outside of Oxford. I know that William the son was born there as it is shown on a later census for him and the dates fit with 1816. John Capel (Wheelwright) is named as his father on his marriage cert in 1845.
Mary married John Capel in 1815 in St Giles, Oxford but died in Cumnor where they lived in 1816 (seen church records for Cumnor).
Yes John goes on to marry twice - thank you I have all the details relating to John and the Capel but I have had a problem tracking where William went betwen 1816 and 1851 and Mary Watkins' parents and ancestors...her line ends with her death presently.
