FAIRTHORN Report 8 Dec 2008 15:20

5 postings on this !!!

Reported to GR as underage BUT they say

In this instance we feel that the posting can remain on the board. However, we will be keeping an eye on this thread.

THERE ARE 5 THREADS

It is VERY tempting to help Jody BUT as mentioned the law says 18.

SADLY

leesle Report 8 Dec 2008 17:34

I might be wrong but havent the laws changed on this, I dont know if Jody is an adoptee, but arnt they allowed access to information, and any help to find the family.
the law says 18 for what...to use this site or to pass on information, would love to know, as how many others arnt 18 and we dont know

leesle

leesle Report 8 Dec 2008 17:39

thanks for that, so how do we know who is 18 on this site just from reading a post

leesle

leesle Report 8 Dec 2008 17:43

ah quite scary.

I wish her all the luck when she is 18 then

Penny

Penny Report 8 Dec 2008 19:04

BUT this girl isn't adopted

The law ( to which I assume you refer) applies to adoptees and knowledge about their birth parents. it also only applies to people born before ( I think off the op of my head) 1974, not those born after, many of whom are brought up with the knowledge..

Jody knows her parents names.

FAIRTHORN

FAIRTHORN Report 8 Dec 2008 19:47

Minnie

we do not know WHY, if you are saying Jody is only in care, her birth parents were unable to raise Jody & her siblings..............On her other thread she mentions ADOPTIVE parents
( not talking to them )

She is 16 years old & neither of her birth parents may be both unsuitable for her.

There are many reasons why children go into care

I hope the social worker Jody says is helping her, knows the law as Jody may have gone into care for her own safety !!!

We do not know,

Ann

Best of luck in your search Jody.

I see from your birth record details that your mother's maiden name was Hill. The only way that you could check her name is to get a birth certificate of yourself or a sibling. It is likely that she will have registered the birth herself.

FAIRTHORN yes I do know why - Jody has told me in a PM.

Do I think its a good idea that she does this - immaterial what I think, or what you think.

We has been adivised is that she conmtacts someone who will be able to answer her questions appropriately.

What is the best way to encourage a 16 year old NOT to do something ? Tell them ''No dont'' ...all that does is spurs their enthusiasm!

She's going to try and do it, What has been said is to do it thru the proper channels. thru the socal work dept of her local council - they know of her circumstances and are the right people to help NOT us.

Let it slip away now.

Hi all, I have done the exact same as Jody when i was 16 looking for family members and my social worker helped me search, you are not allowed to search if you were adopted until 18 but in cases like this social workers are now helping 16yr olds searching for thier birth family, its all part of knowing who you are and where your from.

Jody,

Ann (above) says mothers maiden name Hill, I am NOT sure this is correct, I think it could be Stead??

Good luck with your search.

Hi

Jody herself posted earlier what she thought her mother's name is.
You are correct Sylvia.

Hopefully she can get her own birth certificate.

Penny

Penny Report 8 Dec 2008 22:28

She has already applied for it - its not going to tell her anything she doesnt already know

ValT

ValT Report 8 Dec 2008 23:22

Hi Minnie

It may give her an address for the informant and/or one of her parents. This may help her in her quest in the future.

Very Interesting, but as a Foster Parent past & present and someone who has worked with children & young people for over 30 years, very scarey!
Also as a Person who has worked with Social Services as a Local Goverment Officer I see Lots of Loop Holes.
Good Luck anyway!

Good luck Jody,
We have just traced someone through NORCAP
it is a charity that help people find there families.
here is the link
http://www.norcap.org.uk/
I dont know from what age they can help, but if they cant help they will give you some very good and correct information.

Good luck with your search, Jody but please dont get disheartened as it took us over a year to get the information that we needed. So it does all take sometime.

For what its worth, my thoughts about this matter are.... It may be against the law to contact your parents, but are you in touch with your siblings?

If you got together and presented yourselves as a group you would stand a lot better chance of tracing them .providing you all agree this what you want .

I dont think there is a law against siblings finding each other ?
I'm thinking that the publicity of 5 children looking for their parents might bring people to do something about changing the Law ?

Sylvia Report 9 Dec 2008 10:45

Lindsey,
Jodys' siblings are a bit younger births registered 1994, 1995 & 1997 (did not find Abbeys' birth registration)
