Can anyone shed any light!!!!! Looking for the birth place/parents of Frederick Gatesman born c1777. He married Jane Moore 1803 in Hampshire He died before the 1851 census and the 1841 census has him of not being born in hampshire. My only clue is that I have been told by people who have been unsuccessfully researching him was that he was a Marine in 1803

Iv'e counted about 12-14 children to a Frederick and jane maybe there were many died at birth. Interesting thing is they married 1803 and 1st child born about 1809 so maybe he was away at sea for the first 6 years of their marriege. I can see only 3 sons George 1809,John frederick 1828 and george Robert Doling or boling Gatesman 1826 he married Eliza bucksley in 1849 and had William Alfred Gatesman 1868. Can't find anything on Frederick 1777,as yet

His records would be at the Narional Archives if they have survived. Not online though - you would have to go there or get someone to go for you and it's not a simple search! There is a partial index online and there's a George Gatesman, born Hampshire 1825 ish who was in the Royal Marines. Could this be some relation?
