She was widowed in 1903 when Geroge John died. i have a copy of his will.

Looks like Catherine Carles married Peter Jordan he probably died and then she married George Howard.

In the 1881 census the children probably used their step fathers name

Sue, thank you. I did a search too but you have done better I did not find another male on page 826. but I was looking for the Howard surname, since as you may see from my other reply, the first daughter born 1867/68 is Louisa Howard in the 1881 census.

1871 this is the only census for a Catherine /George Howard but unless it is a 2nd marriage then these have oldest child of 14

Yes , thank you Astra, my next reference that I am sure of, is the 1881 census where George Howard is Head Catherine is wife. The first daughter Louisa, was born 1867/1868, surname Howard. So I came to the conclusion she had married George Howard. Thanks for your help
