Does anyone have any information on Alfred Cassell born 1880 ish. His father was Henry Cassell a merchant seaman, according to Alfreds' marriage certificate. They seem to have dropped from the moon. Thank you for any leads. |

Alfred never spoke about his history or family. I have only his marriage and death details, which obviously gives his fathers name and occupation. He does not appear on any census, and those with the same name have been ruled out. |

Do you have no idea at all whereabouts in the UK or elsewhere he lived? |

If you are so sure that he isn't on a census, I don't know what you hope to learn.............. |

Ann thank you for your very thoughtful question. We only know that he lived in London after 1920. Before that we have nothing. As this was just after the war we wonder if he came from abroad, but do not know how to procede. He obviously had something to hide, as he never made reference to anything from his past. In answer to the person who asks why I am not sharing anything, why exactly do you think I am asking for help? If I had more information I would have used it.A ll assistance is to be given voluntarily, not under duress. Thank you |

Maybe I should also add that I never knew him. |

It would still be helpful to know who, when & where he married. |

I think with his surname we could have a possible mistranscription on the census records, or an elected choice to spell his surname other than the original variation !! |

Joyce - I am wondering if it is Castle rather than Cassell as I can only find one Cassell on the census - others are variations on Castle |

No discourtesy was meant to Ericthered. Apologies if it was so understood. I gave what I thought were the only important details I have in my request. His father was listed as Henry , a merchant seaman. Alfred was listed as a docker, this is the work he did, because I should guess he had no Cards (whatever they were) which I know were essential in those times to work. elsewhere. A kind of national insurance number I guess. I knew that my grandparents eloped from her home town of Maidenhead, but it was only when I got the marriage cerificate that I realized that they married in the same quarter that their first child was born in. They were then living in Walthamstow, East London. She was disowned by her parents, maybe because of the baby. She was 30 , he was 40, not runaway teens. I think I am starting to understand now a bit about how to use the little information I have . Alfred died in a home for the homeless in Poplar, the marriage having broken down. Is any of this useful? Or have I still got it wrong? |

Looking at your questions again, I can see how rude my response did seem, I didn't comprehend your query. They married in West Ham, her name was Alice Maddox, a twin. |

Ann, thank you for your suggestion. I have followed this, and found Alfred Castell with a father William, not Henry, but he was from Maidenhead. I don't know what to think. |
