Welcome to the boards Lynne.

Could you give us a clue as to when born please as you have 3 generations named. Were they all born UK

Any idea when they went to Canada?

Ship's Passenger lists only go up to 1980 - no flight lists.

apologies Iris was the daughter, Ivy nee James wife of John Goulding born 1895 in Barnsley. No idea if Iris daughter was born in UK or Canada, Iris married ? Horseman (not sure if spelt right) and their children were born in Canada if I remember right New Brunswick. Valerie the eldest Wyatt next and I do have a year for the youngest Sharon Dawn 1966. Sorry very little info to go on and there's been no one to ask since 1967.
Ivy married John 1917 and with her approx. birth year she was 22, so if the Iris born 1930 , Ivy would have been 35 years old so she could be a possible, as far as I'm aware she was an only child. If it is the correct child it looks as if she emigrated first and then parents followed in June?

Found Ivy's departure from UK, 23 June 1951
John Goulding age 57 - Engine Driver
Ivy Goulding age 56 - Housewife
address - 112 Seaford Road, Bradford Moor, Bradford.
Port departed - Liverpool
Destination - Boston
Destination country - U.S.A
Ship - Nova Scotia

At this Iris must have been born in the UK so another question did she marry in UK or in Canada?

Thank you for your help, I was in touch with Valerie in the 60s so she would be born in the 50's in Canada. I also lost touch with her in the late 60's, sorry not much to go on.

From the free to use site - https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Shows the marriage of John A and IVY to be 1919

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Sep 1919 (>99%)

Goulding John A James Barnsley 9c 542
James Ivy Goulding Barnsley 9c 542

From the same site - the birth of Iris was in the Bradford RD in 1929, with the possibility of earlier births of a son Kenneth 1920 and twin daughters May and Eileen 1925 all in Barnsley RD

And again, using that site, 1945 - 1982, shows 3 marriages of an Iris Goulding - none to a Horseman, none in the Barnsley area

This is the family in 1939 - 2 closed records - likely to be Iris and May's twin (with the possible son no longer at home?)

EDIT - son Kenneth probably died aged 3 Barnsley RD

The address that John A and Ivy Goulding left UK from was 112 SANford Road - the same as the 1939 address. The last column on the page appears to have been handwritten (as country of intended future permanent residence) as England.

Kay posted a possible entry for Iris going to Canada 3 months before her parents.
The original of that record shows her UK address also as 112 Sanford Road.

So, the other closed record in 1925 - probably May's twin Eileen.
Also went to Canada, intending to stay. Looks like she was first to go and the others followed.

May married 1945 and as her name is open on the 1939 register, presumes she has since died.

Thank you so much, didn't know she had any other children, only met auntie Ivy once as she visited from Canada, met at her sisters, and went with my granddad (her brother), he died when I was 12 in 1967 day before we went on holiday, so it would have been in 1965 or 1966 we saw her. I've a feeling it was more 1966.

If you search http://www.canada411.ca for Iris Horsman (no "e" in the middle), you'll find the address and phone number for one who lives in New Brunswick.

Of course I can't say if that's her or not - maybe a totally different person!

A big thank you for all that helped, I looked at the obituary and sent an email to the funeral home, I'm hoping her husband is still living and that he or one of her children/grandchildren will get in touch. I only thought I had 7 relations in Canada, the obituary is fantastic, giving me the names of my cousins in Canada. My tree has grown a few more branches now.

I cannot thank you all enough, Best wishes to you all.

Contact details for one of the sons mentioned in the obit

Her husband is also listed on canada411, but he is probably rather elderly. He may not welcome contact from a distant relative of his wife.

Possible for her sister, but do bear in mind she'd be c87. She may be perfectly fit and healthy, but on the other hand??

The sister Iris mentioned in Eileen's obituary is definitely the one whose contact details are on canada411, as posted earlier.

Good luck with your email to the funeral home!

I am a little late to the party, but Iris is shown here in a photo in a 2012 newsletter:

It certainly does seem as if the Hors'e'man spelling is incorrect
