As he seems to have lived and died in Blackpool there are two possible marriages in 1948

Think you need the death cert to try and work back whic one may be him

Thanks for all the helpful information, I have been contacted by a lady (my new cousin) who has straightened out my family tree. John A Campbell/Kenn and his sister Ethel Barbara Campbell/Kenn actually have a different father - Basil Kenn. But I have gained two more aunties and one uncle - Lorna, Peggy and Colin Eastwood Campbell from James Colin Campbell's first marriage to Ethel Eastwood. Still haven't found a birth for Colin Eastwood Campbell 1924-2002 and others have been looking as well. Colin Eastwood Campbell was the man that came looking for his father and half sister (my mother) and it was in the late 1940s.

To Yvonne - No he didn't have a brother called John but good spotting I know it happens sometimes.

To Rose - Yes he appears to be the only child and yes 11 years is a long time after the wedding. Mind you he did part-take in WW1 and came back mustard-gassed. This is what makes it so interesting - my mother never knew till 1961 that she even had a half-brother. Then when John was three years old he remarried to my grandmother in 1930 in Chelsea London. And when they married it was only 49 days before my mother was born. It's all a bit suspicious as I have never found a divorce from Ethel yet. I have been searching for information for three years now and this is all I have found out. Ethel's father was Allen Eastwood, Commercial Traveller, deceased by 1916.

To Shirley - I will look to see if Ethel Campbell remarried. Thanks.

Thanks to everyone for their comments.

He was the only child to that marriage and he was born 11 years later?

Isn't that a little unusual?

suggest you get his birth cert for its info .

Have you looked for a remarriage for his mum and her death . He may be the informant and an address given.

Their marriage cert will give her age and her fathers name ,if known

you may have to go backwards in order to come forward .

John must have done some digging to find you all in 1961

Thank you, yes, I should have given you more information. All I have is the information that Fairthorn has given. I do have a copy of the marriage certificate because I was interested to see if my grandfather James Colin Campbell had been married before that but he wasn't. I still don't know what the "A" stands for in John A Campbell. I thought that someone in his family may be researching as well and recognise him.

Thanks for your help.

Well, at least you've now told us what we need to try to assist you to trace him...........it helps

Birth registered Hunslet AMJ

A copy of the cert would tell you his second name and actual DOB, which could be useful in trying to trace him

Have you looked for info yourself anywhere?

Sue57

Sue57 Report 25 Feb 2015 10:21

John A Campbell was born in 1927, his mother was Ethel Eastwood and father James Colin Campbell. James Colin Campbell was my mother's father from his second marriage. So he would have been 34 in 1961 and 88 now. I know chances are slim.

Jacqueline Report 25 Feb 2015 09:41

Which parent did he share with your mother?

54 years is a long time..........he could be anywhere, or nowhere

Have you done anything about looking for a birth for him?

Was Campbell his birth name? How old was he in 1961?

You would need to give us some background to the family connection in order that we can try to help .

His name is probably very common so won't be easy to pinpoint the right man

Pity the family didn't take some contact details from him at the time

Possible living in Yorkshire. He was my mother's half brother. She didn't know he existed until he called in 1961 but they couldn't meet because my family was just getting on a plane to go and live in New Zealand.
