A marriage cert won't name the mother

Try looking for his birth on FreeBMD

Well the cert should take you a step backwards in his family

It will probably be small steps at a time but that will keep you on the right track

Better to take small steps and hopefully find him

As I posted buy a copy of his marriage cert to your mum for its info on his age and his father's name

Hopefully it should tie with the fathers name on the marriage found

There does look to be possible two further marriages in Bristol

Shirley I have sent info about GRO and about Ann's parents wedding on an e-mail so she can buy that to confirm her grandfather's name. Then she'll hopefully have the info about her grandparents and confirm father's birth.

:-)

Anne, you need to start with facts. That's what posters have tried to do.
A male could father a child aged about 14 but also at 84. There's no point looking for someone from the wrong generation.

It's been suggested you buy a copy of your parents marriage certificate. That will tell you how old he was at the time, and possibly his father's name.

Patincyprus has noticed a birth registration in 1941. Would that be a similar year to when your mother was born?

His exact date of birth, and his parents names might help to identify other relatives. Sometimes you have to research backwards and sideways to come forward.

This is the site to order Certs from
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Perhaps someone can send Anne the full details needed to order them?

This looks like his parents

Marriages Jun 1937
Lower Anne West Sunderland 10a 1224
West Frank C Lower Sunderland. 10a. 1224

PatinCyprus Report 18 Sep 2016 20:36

If you buy the marriage certificate of your parents and his father is Frank C West he married Anne Lower in Sunderland in 1937 and that's his birth in 1941.

Look on FreeBMD for the GRO record and order a copy from

www.gro.gov.uk

Costs £9.75 with the gro ref quoted on the order

You have to register free and then follow the order form

Tick the box that asked if the GRO ref is known and use the name info as quoted on the gro record
