I was in a tea room this morning and a couple were arguing about whether the cream or jam should go on their scones first? One said cream, so you get more cream on the scone. The other said jam because it tastes nicer. I cut my scone in half; put cream on one half and jam on the other. :-D

I lady who runs the tea room lit a fire. She reckons that if the flames had been blue, that would dbe a sign that we were in for some snow. May Day is supposed to be the first day of summer. Why is she lighting fires and talking about snow? :-S

She's lighting a fire, because it's cold!!!

I put jam on first, cream on top. Cream isn't as sticky as jam, and you can work the cream into a mound :-D

She should invest in a good pullover. ;-)

The jam was so nice I bought a jar of it. :-)

It depends on where you are

Cornwall is jam first but Devon is cream first

I've lived in both Cornwall and Devon - still put the jam on first :-D

Having said that, my dad was Cornish, so maybe it's in the genes :-D

Devon cream tea - a treat to die for!

‘Do it for Devon’. No need to cross the Tamar to that other place.

I put cream on first, in lieu of butter - you wouldn't put the butter on top of the jam, would you? HAS to be strawberry jam, I'm afraid :)

Graham, as someone who comes from Somerset you should know it is cream first then the jam, the same as Devon.

Cornwall is the other way round.

Sharron Report 2 May 2015 13:26

I would rather just have a bit of butter. The scone is the best bit.

When you are starving with the hunger, you'd eat nicely warmed scones any which way.

Surviving & homeless residents of Natal wouldn't mind one way or the other.

If it was warmed I would have to leave it until it cooled down.

I don't like stuff warmed up.
