Re Alan -

Not sure if the National Records of Scotland might be able to tell you anything:

https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/research/guides/adoption-records

Probably not if you're not close family - but might be worth a try, as Alan is deceased.
Perhaps they could tell you his birth name, and then we could find his birth record.

Thanks Chris, I did look at the cemetery details this morning, while you were sleeping!

Ladies, don't worry yourself over the 'Meadow' family as it's not my blood but I am so grateful that I can now put a full stop for Elsie May in my tree.

AG, the details for Alan are not important to me for the same reason as above, but as you know, us researchers like as much detail as is 'easily' accessible!

I haven't spoken to Fred for a while and asking about the death of his adopted son might be a step too far as it's very sensitive, especially for a 97 year old. I'll put that one to bed.

Thanks again everyone, as always, top girls <3

Hi, Gins -

You PM'd me with Alan's DOB and death details.

Unfortunately it's impossible to find his birth record.
Obviously he was born with a different surname, which we don't know, and may also have had different forenames.

Even if the Clutterbucks kept his original forenames, there are several people with those forenames born in Scotland in the right year, and no way of knowing if any of them might be him.

It's not possible even to narrow it down from the year to a particular quarter in that year - only the year shows up on SP.

Limiting the search to Stirlingshire (if that's even relevant re the Clutterbucks, or re the birth) brings up one person with those forenames, but in a different year, in Falkirk.

Sorry can't be more helpful.
As a very wild long shot I even searched with the surnames Whiteley and Clutterbuck, but the only births for those names at the right time were girls.
With Thomson (an even wilder shot), and limiting it to the one year, there were seven Alans born in Scotland in that year, but none with the right middle name, and none in Stirlingshire.

Would Fred, whom you say is still alive, be able or willing to tell you Alan's birth name?

There's a lot of info online about John Meadow but don't know if you need it. He emigrated to Canada first, married Julia McLean 1912 in Toronto, Ontario..Marriage record gives his parents John Meadow and Marjorie Brooks.

Margaret, you're a buddy star!! Thank you

I just couldn't get the Scottish connection but have remembered that Elsie' daughter Gladys Josephine Clutterbuck (nee Whiteley) and her husband Fred adopted a child (Alan - tragic early death for him) in Scotland

AG, thanks for the daughters names, it all fits perfectly

:-D

Hmmm.....it looks good except for the Strathblane connection

Pinellas and St Petes have other family there so it might be worth looking further.

The mention of two daughters, does it give their names?

Thanks Margaret

I've searched for this lady for years and years and have had no luck in finding her after the 1939 Register

She was born in Sheffield, S Yorkshire 15th May 1898. She married Arnold Whiteley in 1918. Arnold died in 1942 and the death certificate is the last trace I have of her.

The couple lived in New Jersey for some years (came back to the UK in the 1930s) and their two daughters died in Florida in the 70s/80s (I have the details for the girls)

I have wondered if she went to live with one of her daughters after the death of her husband?

I have all the history for the couple and their families, it's just finding her after the death of her husband that I really need help with

Nipping out for an hour but will check back soon to answer any questions and such

Thanks all :-)
