it is all fascinating, and sad. I hate trawling through soldiers records, all who died so young :-( I have even found my grandfathers ..
But thank you everyone, once more, for all of your stirling efforts,
much appreciated, as always. :-D

Oh well - back to the drawing board :-0

Its just as well greyghost has found the correct birth reg, so the census are still likely to be correct.

Actually, the Wharfedale death is the only one for a P Yates old enough to be a soldier who died 2Q 1921.

Where the CWGs have been 'claimed', all the families have addresses close to the area.

oh, I was just going to look for any other info, but you have beaten me to it!!!! Lesa (work coll) will be so pleased. Her family have tended Peter's grave for many years as no one else visited ; she was just wondering about him, and knowing I am interested in genealogy asked me to find out anything. Ironically, although his grave says P Yates, she has always referred to him as Peter, just to give him a name!!!! But thank you all once ore. E <3

Eunice Report 28 Apr 2016 22:15

Been asked to post this by work colleague who is going to 'take over' looking after an untended military grave in Lancashire. It says The Kings Own, with the Lion emblazoned, then 17471 PRIVATE P YATES, Royal Lancaster Regiment
9th May 1921; I have done a quick search but cannot find P Yates; i am presuming P was male of course. Will I have to apply to the RLR regimental museum do you think?
:-S
