Help!!!!!

Two of us have been trying to solve this problem since yesterday afternoon.

Denis Desmond born 13 Oct 1925 Bedwellty - Mothers maiden name Walsh

Denis died 27 June 1947 in Israel occupied territories and is commemorated on CWGC and find a grave and states son of John and Bridget.

The only John Desmond/Bridget Walsh marriage we can find is 1908 in Merthyr Tydfil.

In 1911 John is a widower and has 2 children Anastasia and Jeremiah, his wife Bridget died Q2 1910 a few weeks after her son Jeremiah was born.

So where on earth is a second John Desmond marriage to another Bridget Walsh from which marriage Denis was born.

Any help greatly appreciated and also more paracetemol.

Can you post that 1911 census as FMP isn't picking it up

Ancestry tree states John/Edward Desmond 1879? died Workhouse 16/1/1915 married Bridget Codey 1888-1910 married 19/5/1907 had Anastasia 1907-1920 and Jeremiah 1910-1988

Parents of Bridget Codey were John and Anastasia

John remarried Elizabeth Drisscal 1912.

Do you have Anastasia and Jeremiah's birth certs - are you sure they're the children of "your" John ?

Anastasia was born Mar qr 1908, and John and Bridget didn't marry until Sept qr 1908.

We attached the 1911 census with Bridget Looney as a servant as the correct one for John Desmond (widowed) and the two children. That ties up with Bridget Walsh's death too.

The Long Row household in 1939 does have Thomas Desmond who we think is the one born ^^^^^^.

John Desmond died in the village in 1946.

Add: happy that the marriage in Merthyr is correct. Working on the closeness of the areas.

The 1911 census is a mess and Bridget the servant is actually called Looney as I have her birth record.


Edit: I will return to this later as I have to take my senile nap. I really appreciate all suggestions re this mystery. We are trying to tie up the details on this chap for our village historical group.

So John 1877 and son Thomas 1914 in 1939 are at 25,Long Row, then 1911 25,Long Row John Desmond born cork 1877 with wife Norah born Cork1882 and Jeremiah Desmond brother 1886 is the correct family?

I think John was the son of Jeremiah and Norah Desmond,who also had son Denis/Dennis 1883 in Cork.

Yes, that's Anastasia's death record.

So...... we are still stuck because....

the memorial states Den(n)is Desmond son of John and Bridget and his birth record gives Bridget's maiden name as Walsh.

The 1908 marriage of a Bridget Walsh to John Desmond which produces 2 children, she dies and that finishes that line, as referenced by the 1911 census and death record for her,

This means that we are still looking for a blasted marriage......somewhere, anywhere between a John Desmond and a Bridget Walsh other than the 1908 one which produced the 4 children.

I'm not understanding this, is John with son Thomas in 1939 the same John with wife Norah in 1911 ??
Both addresses are the same are they not.
Or are neither your John

Mary, The Long Row 1911 and 1939 records make sense but how does Nora fit in?

The memorial def states that Dennis' Mother was Bridget.

So even if that John and Thomas on the 1939 register are correct (which seems likely) where is Bridget?

The only lead I have at the moment is if Nora died post 1911, John remarried a Bridget Walsh and she is redacted from the 1939.

Chris......my friend is looking at that John, thanks I had forgotten about him because my brain is absolutely addled trying to pin down the family on the memorial.

Thought...there is no birth that I can see for the Norah Desmond daughter born 1910 ish on the 1911 with mother Norah?


add there does not appear to be a marriage of a John Desmond to a Norah ( or variants)
1911 says that couple have been married 2 years
