Find Ancestors

I have my tree on Ancestry but don't have a subscription. I was checking today and on the hints was this one
Henry Greevner born 1868 born Deptford living in Deptford age 3 with father Henry, mother Mary Ann and a sibling Mary Ann.
The family name is actually Greener but am hoping this is them as I haven't been able to find the family before

They should be in the Woolwich area he was a gunner in the RA
Another daughter Mary Anne was born in 1872 and both her and Fanny were baptised in Woolwich on 1st Jan 1873. before the family went to Ireland for 9 years returning to Pembury Kent in November 1881

George Greener is the one I was hoping to find, I have him on the 1861 but no others!
I have his army papers and he puts his father as George Greener birthplace Tunbridge wells age 17 3/4 when he joined in 1859 ........no record of birth in that area at any time. Hasn't been found on the 1851 ...I was wondering if he was registered under his mothers name? (I have a grandfather who was as his parents weren't married at the time) I believe he must of known the area very well to of gone back there to live after 21 yrs in the army.
The 1881 the family were still in Ireland where 3 more children were born. In 1882 twins were born in pembury. I found most of the family on the 1891 in pembury with Mary Anne put as married, head of the house. In 1901 Mayr puts herself as a widow and she dies in 1906
Last year through the newspapers I was able to find an article on George Greener in the local paper of T/Wells in 1888 from the union workhouse where he worked saying they had received a letter from him saying he had had enough of everything and by the time they received the letter he would of sailed from Southampton over the sea never to return!
There was a family story that he had 'run off' with a woman who worked at the workhouse! No mention in the paper of another person absconding.also discovered he was literate as they published his letter

Since it was 1888 just before the passengers lists which started in 1890 I have checked arrivals in all the obvious countries ...nothing! I was wondering if he went back to Ireland ( my father told me that his grandmother...Fanny had told him of the shamrock she used to receive each year from Ireland for her birthday for a short while)......but can't find any shipping records.........

So he is the mystery his birth and where he ended up, ....every now and then I have a go at trying to find more information and the find in the newspaper last year inspired me to keep trying with new records coming online all the time!
